My day often starts about 530 a.m. We meet 5 days a week at our church to pray for our nation! This is so important to me as I see how the "change" that has and is taking is frightening...but this is only my opinion..and as a Christian...I will uphold the principles of God's word ...."pray all those in authority over us; so we can live a peaceable life" (paraphrased by me)

After a few hours there...I venture home to take care of the matters of the homestead...which is usually: laundry, sweeping, mopping, dusting...managing the finances, keeping the porches tidied up...and of course nesting and creating is in there too!!!

As I type this on my laptop..I am looking out to our backyard...its alive with trees, flowers and various wildlife! I have some hot coffee with a splash of sugar free French Vanilla creamer and a sprinkle or tow of Pumpkin Spice on top..quite yummy I must say. Have some candles lit in the house and it smells wonderful! The house is clean and tidied from yesterdays' "Weekly Home Blessing" and quite thankful I have a few moments to post today!

We have had some light drizzle in my neck of the woods, for the past few days, which has made for some lovely Autumn-like temperatures. The wind is blowing some as I hear it rustling in the trees and the wind chimes are playing their music as the wind shifts and turns them. The blue jays and hummingbirds are quite busy today as are the squirrels I see from time to time. Its a time before the rest of the Winter season..when all of nature lays down and rests and sleeps. But until then...the Autumn is here with the vibrant colors and textures...the smells of soups, stews and candle loveliness. The glow of the lamps burning in the homes as we take evening walks about the neighborhood. The smell of the first fire in the fire place to keep out the chill as the sun sets.

While life is not picture perfect neither reads like a novel....we can enjoy the simple pleasures of routines in our typical days. What are a few things and ideas you can implement in your home to bring peace, order and beauty to it?

Simplify our lives....lump errands together; as your doing dishes, light a candle and say a pray of thanks that we have a home to bless and dishes to do!

Gather some leaves, acorns, pine cones, mosses and rocks put together in a basket or a pretty bowl and enjoy the colors of the season!

Get your crockpot out and make up a batch of hearty Beef Stew or Chicken and Dumplins'! nothing says Fall like yummy smells coming from the kitchen.

In the laundry room how about some great containers and baskets in which to house the detergent, softeners..etc...some old enamelware stock pots with lids are great for powdered detergent. Make it a place YOU want to be in....put your personal signature on your home....a place of peace, rest, order and beauty as you celebrate the Autumn season everyday!! Greetings to you my friend!! It is been quite awhile since I have written....but life is happening for all of us. I have thought of deleting my blog quite a few times...but being unable to do this...I just wait until I feel there is something that I need to say.

I wanted my blog not only to have pictures of my daily life, and thoughts and snippets of this and that...but I wanted to be transparent and authentic....ME!

I may not have alot to say at any given time...but I know that this is a place of encouragement for certain! If we need a place of encouragement, and a time for it it is here and now!

With the Autumn season in place....although you wouldn't know it here..as it was 105 today..urghhh...changes are indeed happening.

I get rejuvenated at this time of year....the colors are so rich...the scent of cinnamon, vanilla and pumpkin spice are often heady...the air takes on a crispness to it...I long to throw a cozy cardigan going out to run errands...and to bring out the Autumn decor and fluff the nest for the changing season.

I have done just that....fluffed the nest!! I brought in from the garage my bin that has my Harvest decor in it, and had such a delightful time nesting, fluffing, and re-creating in my home! I did a little bit each day...and just love it...it so comforting to come home and see the dining room table with the leaves, pine cones and such on it!

As I have mentioned to you that changes have taken place....there is less of me...in fact 54 lbs gone as of today!! It is the start of an amazing journey for certain...and I will continue on with it!!

There is a door that God has opened for us...and that is the door to the Native Americans. My husband and I recently were invited to minister at one of the Indian Reservations' in our area. What an amazing time we had!! The Native community welcomed us heartily....and we are so grateful to be able to minister to them! Both my husband and I have ancestry in the Native community. It is just awesome to see God move and how He opens doors that no man can open and shuts doors that no man can shut!! He makes a way!!! We have been invited to a Youth Rally in October at another Reservation and I was invited to go with a friend to a Woman's gathering held and yet another Reservation!!! God is sooooo faithful!!!

I do plan on posting pictures this week of the Fall Harvest Decor in my home and how it is changing with the seasons...but until then...blessings to you and your hearth and may your hand be blessed in all you do!!!

Summer's past....

All of us have triggers that remind us of loved ones who have gone to be with the Lord. I have many fond memories of Mema...my Mother's mother. She was born in Oklahoma before Oklahoma was...it was Indian Territory! We were told countless stories...the adventures they had when they were children!

In the summer my younger sister and I would stay with my grandparents for a few weeks! We slept out on the "service porch"...it was screened in and had a big fluffy bed with a cozy chenille bedspread. Mema always had fresh flowers in every room of the house...whether anyone was in it or not! She would ask me to go pick violets to put in a tiny vase next to the side of the bed where I would be sleeping...ahhh those sweet smelling violets as you layed your head down to sleep.

I would drift off to sleep hearing the coyotes in the distance and the sounds of thunder at times.

My grandparents rose about 4am every morning...Papa would go out to the gardens and orchard to harvest the veggies and fruits for that day!! Plums, apricots, grapes, corn, cucumbers, melons...it was amazing the green thumb the two of them had. I would hear Mema singing in the 'summer house" which was located just across the walkway from where we slept. she would sing "In the Garden", "Amazing Grace" (which her name was Grace!) and other traditional gospel songs....she was getting her canning started for the day....always "puttin up" something! Her jams and jellies were amazing!!

The clouds would build over the mountains in the afternoons, then we would have a good thunder shower...I would sit in the summer house as the rain fell on the roof making such a distinct sound...eating a cucumber and tomato sandwich with fresh harvested veggies and bread made that morning!! These are such beautiful memories and while I long for that time once in awhile...I know that walking in that simplicity of living....has been deeply ingrained in me since I was a child. For this I am oh so thankful. For the times we are living in a more uncertain everyday. We must know the God who loves us in a way we never been loved before. We must trust and lean on the Great I AM as never before. Many may say negative things and worry about doomsday predictions....while I know what the Word of God says.... I keep praying and believing and standing in the gap for those who have yet to make Jesus their Lord and Savior!

I am being purposeful in this season I find myself in...putting my home in order....clearing out the files... deleting old things, purging the unwanted I have stored up...thinking they were a part of me and such a treasure...only to find out...its baggage that I have toted around for many years. As you have guessed...this isn't just in the natural, but also in every facet of my life...physical, emotional, spiritual too!!! Shedding of pounds is a great liberty...and in spite of having to face and continue to walk through some challenges these past few months, I trust God with it all for HE is the one who led me to this place, and I am so grateful!!!

I look at Summer's Past...with a smile on my face...a wonderful time in my life as a child....and fast forward to today..this moment....being led down a path of greater simplicity in my life, enjoying my husband, children and grand-children, in awe of God everyday for my life in so full and I can truly say I am a blessed woman!

Memorial Day...

Gasp.....she posts again!!! Yes I am back....its been quite awhile and for that I apologize. Time just seems to be passing so quickly it's amazing!!

My Hubby and I graduated from the School of Ministry on Resurrection Sunday...it was a long 1 1/2 yr process..with MANY tests and trails, but the Lord was so faithful in it all!

We are waiting on the Lord to find out what is next....until we know what it is, we are happily serving at our church. He is Head Usher and I am over the Prayer Ministry as well as a teacher in the Sunday School class. I am called on every 6 weeks to minister on Wednesday evenings to the congregation and Hubby has ministered on Sunday morning a handful of times!! God is Good!

Have more to tell you all...I am re-create mode....not sure where this will go...but God is in it!! Much to share with you...but for now, Enjoy the rest of your evening with family and friends, or if you didn't gather with loved ones....enjoy and relish in the blessed quiet!!

New Years's blessings!

We are going out of town tomorrow to spend the evening with our friends and family! We are staying in a local hotel...it will be like a mini vacation for us!

I am looking forward to what the new year will bring. In spite of how the "economy" looks...I see how God has continued to provide for us, His had is on His own. I want to be in the place He wants me to be in...do what He wants me to do...say what He wants me to say...see what I am supposed to see. It comes right down to being obedient really. The Bible says that "Obedience is better than sacrifice"....I want His perfect will for my life!! That may mean giving up things that are no longer beneficial to me....but I purpose to be obedient to His call.

I pray that this year is a new of great favor and flourishing for you and yours...get in a place to hear what the Lord is saying to you...let Him speak to you in His word...be still and know that HE is God. He is directing our steps...yield to His hand and watch what He does in this coming year!!!

God's promises and blessings in abundance to you and yours...in Jesus' name!

just some thoughts....

With the house decked in its Christmas finery and some packages tied up with bows...this is my time to unwind and relax. It's the time of the season that I settle in more to my daily routines and relish in the rhythm of the season. Its a gentle time for me..raising early in the morning and watching the sun rise. The coffee pot is on its timer, so when I come downstairs the aroma that awaits me...ahh tis morning...I put in two slices of english muffin bread ( so good, crispy and crusty) a small pat of butter...grab my favorite coffee cup that my sis gave me for my birthday a few years ago...then I go to my chair...toss a cozy throw over me and take my journal and bible...then wait on Him. He leads me through my devotional time with Him. Some days I read Proverbs or Psalms....other days Matthew or Ephesians. But in any case...it is always relevant to what is happening in my life...for God knows! He knows what is going on in my life...He cares, when no one else does...He is always with me...never has He left me or forsaken me..nor will He! It is in this place that His Presence comes and gently washes over me.

In His Presence is peace and great joy!! This Christmas...seek Him...and find Him..for Jesus is coming soon....are you ready??? Much love and abundant blessings to you and your house!!

Taking a break from puttering around the house to say hello again! So much has been happening! Hubby and I are done with school now...finishing up on the last of our homework and getting ready to take the final..after the Christmas Holiday.

We have attended a few Christmas parties this season...the first, Hubby's company party! It was fun to go with our son and daughter-in-law...he works for the company too! Our dear friends were there also...so we had a great time. The second was this past Friday night...given by one of the ladies at our church, she wanted to bless everyone so she planned a party! I was one of the coordinators..planned the flower arrangements and decorations! It was such a lovely evening!! I am posting the photo of the two of us....

This Christmas season has been lean for many of us...including me. We are purchasing basics for our grown children and just buying needed items for our 4 year old grandson. We will have another addition to our family...Our son and daughter-in-law are expecting their second child...its a girl!!! We are are thrilled!!

I have seen how faithful the Lord is to us in these uncertain times. The media sends out such fear across the airwaves...causing so many to be just riddles with anxiety and panic....but with God...we can be certain ...He is the Surety...He is our Security and Provision!! We can be certain that He will and does take care of His people!! I know that this past year we wouldn't have made except the Lord provided!!!

While many of us are getting back to the basics...I truly believe that this is where God wants us to be....remembering and helping those in need..look beyond ourselves...find someone to bless. The basics of our faith in Him. Trusting in Him with our whole heart and not lean to our own understanding with the circumstances and situations we are facing....God is on the Throne and He is taking care of His people!! What a gift...God making a way where there doesn't seem to be a way!!

Times of quiet contemplation are awaiting us...He is calling to you, whispering to your heart, waiting to reveal to you His plan and purpose for the coming year. Take a break from the running and going...the hurriedness that pushes in on us so much this time of year....and Listen to the still small voice and God whispers to your heart.

a long time away...

I have been away for a long while. So much has been happening! It hasn't been bad things or circumstances, but a time of tremendous growth and stretching.

My husband and I are entering our last 10 weeks of ministry school! We have been ministering a lot and enjoying all that the Lord has been teaching us in this season! We are so blessed to have the mentors and teachers in our lives.

We have been on break for 2 weeks, and I have been diligently cleaning and organizing our home. Some things have had to be put aside as we have pursued the call that God has for the two of us.

I brought out my plastic bin of Autumn decor and started in last weekend. Just adding and deleting things from the tablescapes bring such a freshness to our home. Made a trip to the Dollar store for a few things and came home with such a creative spurt that I felt I needed to act upon it while I had the energy and also the time! The homestead looks lovely and quite cozy...reading for the cool evenings that are soon to come.

I am also thrilled to let you know that Our daughter Amie was married and Our on Ryan and our dear daughter in law are expecting their 2nd child!! What a blessing!!! God is so faithful and He continues to show Himself strong not only to us but our children as well!

Let it rain!!

We have had so much rain here in Southern California!! It has been long over due. I welcome the rain, every bit of it!
I am typing this on my son's laptop as I have been sick in bed with a secondary infection and sinusitis, not fun whatsoever! I was at the E.R. Saturday night, came home and collapsed in bed to sleep. It is amazing what large doses of prayer and antibiotics does for a person!! Thank the Lord!
I look out my bedroom window which is open to air out the stuffiness of the room and I hear the sound of water rushing over the rocks in the creek behind our home. The wind is blowing the clouds so quickly, the sun is peeking in and out among the clouds. The birds are singing and flitting from tree to tree. I have a candle lit on my bedside table and felt this is the time to correspond with you.
Since my husband and I have started the School of Ministry, our lives have changed so much. We pray together...sounds strange....but we do. The growth that our individual lives have taken is just amazing to me, not to mention as a couple. Both of us know that we are called to full-time ministry. We do not know how the Lord will work this out, but we know He will!
With studying and also having a family...prioritizing is a must! So much needs to be caught up on around the home. I do a little here and there....making endless lists it seems.
I have a growing peace within me that I have not known before. That all is truly well. It doesn't matter what the news says, or the government....this is all subject to change suddenly too! I choose to focus on the eternal things.....for the things of this world are so temporary. Why use the energy to wring my hands and worry about this or that! Pray instead...pray without ceasing....for Prayer changes things, peoples, situations, government and nations!!!

Realizing that I haven't posted since October ...I was thinking just how time has accelerated! WOW!!

I pray that this finds you all well and enjoy this wondrous time of year!

Christmas has always been my favorite holiday of all. It is the time that we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In spite of what may be happening with the economy, jobs, issues within our country and worldwide...He is STILL on HIS throne! God hasn't forgotten us, nor is He moved or worried in anyway about these things. Why should we be? Now more than ever Christians are called to unity and to prayer! Prayer changes things!!!I am speaking from my heart...enough of the division in the Body of Christ!! We must come to unity and agreement with one another...and we all meet as Christians at the foot of the Cross of Jesus!!

We have really simplified our gift giving this year...it is so freeing and liberating too!! No more going into debt for presents...this is wisdom! Just little things for our grown children...necessities and for our Grandson Nicholas...a few toys and clothes!

I have some clove and cinnamon sticks simmering on the stove, a hot cup of coffee with some eggnog creamer, lights are twinkling on the tree and candles are creating a soft glow in the family room.....life is good! Simple things...simple times. The kids are all helping out with the Christmas dinner. We have plenty of movies to watch and board games to play. The weather is calling for rain and cold temps...so it will be a day to cozy up and relax!!

I hope to post once again before Christmas...but if for some reason I am not able too....My prayer for you and your house is.. Joy overflowing, Peace that transcends all understanding and the Father's Love permeate your heart and the hearts of all your loved one's! God bless you!!

Tis Autumn...

Autumn greetings to you! I am so enjoying this time of year! As you know this is my favorite season..of course next to winter! This time of year my heart turns towards home and all that brings. Nesting, creating and arranging to make a cozy place to come home to.

Life has really picked up speed for me here in my peaceful corner. I have had quite a few opportunities of ministry this past summer, as the Lord continues to open doors for me! I study alot of days, doing assignments for school, plus the keeping of the home! The Lord is showing me what needs to be streamed lined in my days, and how He gives me more time! It is truly amazing as I see Him redeem the time for me!

My daughter wants to have a yard sale this weekend to clear out all the extra stuff in the garage! I say Hallelujah!! She wants to help and I am thrilled of the possibility that we will have breathing room in that space!

I had a birthday on the 1st of October...46...came and went! It was a blessing to have the kids and loved ones call to wish me well!! I am a blessed woman indeed!

With the financial situation in our country and world...the Christmas season will be sparse!! Time to go back to basics and the true reason for the season...JESUS! Time to be good stewards of what He has entrusted each of us with individually and collectively. Going back to the basics is perhaps making something from your heart...creativity is the key! I know I cannot be the only one thinking this way, but I refuse to go into further debt by using credit for Christmas! Simplicity will be the theme this year!

Just a few things in my life that brings me joy! I have had another opportunity to minister at the Women's Fellowship meeting at our church this past Thursday! It was a wonderful time in the presence of the Lord!!!

I am so looking foward to the next few weeks as I prepare oour home for the Autumn season. Planning on some deep cleaning....baseboards, carpets..etc. Nothing better than a clean, organized, de-cluttered, smelling of apples and cloves kinda home!!! That is what i'm working towards in the next few weeks. Need to get some new batteries for my camera so I can tkae pictures of the changes that will be made! I so enjoy sharing these with you all too!

We are enjoying our long Labor Day weekend. As it winds down...I look toward the Autumn season..my favorite time of year. Even though it is still 90 degrees here....I press on knowing it WILL change soon enough!!!

I have some spaghetti sauce in the crock pot with some Italian sausages...yum! I will fix a salad and have garlic bread too!! Easy enough dinner..but hearty for all of us.

Tonight I'll make a cup of hot tea, sit down with my calender and start filling it in for the month! Tis a busy month with birthdays and our anniversary on Sept 3rd! So I will light a candle next to my chair and settle in for a little productive planning time before settling in for the night. Back to the Basics

Woke to sunshine but looking to the east it seems as if clouds may make their way towards the west....at least that is what I am hoping for! We need some RAIN!

I have some wonderful instrumental worship music playing, the doors are all open airing out the house, washing is chugging along in the garage, and I'm taking a break and also taking a deep breath!

When I become so busy with stuff..you know...stuff: errands, chores, activities here and there, yardwork....etc..I become ill at ease. I realize I am doing too much! I have the tendency to keep going and going till I hit a wall so to speak. This morning I heard that still small voice of the Spirit of God say, "back to the basics Mindy", and those things...that drive me to keep going and moving..lifted and once again...I find freedom and liberty in Him!

I can only speak for myself, but I know that there are others who feel as I do. Home is very important to me, always has been. Keeping home is a joy to me...even when I was working full time, I so enjoyed my days off..puttering and the like. I may be old-fashioned....unconventional, stuck in another time...but this doesn't bother me one bit! I have to be true to myself and how God fashioned me! Even as a little girl..I moved furniture around quite often, puttered in my own little room I shared with my sister. These are things that make me who I am! No longer do I make excuses for nesting and puttering....for when I am doing this...I am at peace!

Time to get back to the basics. What are the basics? Having a routine that is done daily...with no excuses, meals planned, errands done on certain days, and desk time to sit and plan. These are just a few things for me to implement once again. With the cost of food, meal planning is truly a must. Gas prices have fallen just a little but I plan my errands in the middle of the week to avoid the increased traffic that the weekends bring.

I am being purposeful in clearing out clutter from our backyard. Working just 15-30 minutes a day has wonderful results! I hosed off the patio and the chairs..re-potted some plants, deadheaded some roses too. I will make an arrangement to put on the table with flowers cut from the yard. It is lovely to see flowers on the table as I look outside. These are some little ideas to help me create my own sanctuary of peace and rest. I challenge you to do the same thing! Pick a spot to call your own and have fun creating the place of rest for you! Blessings to you this sweet Summer morning!!!

Rested Soul...

Hello! This is the longest that I have been away since starting my blog a few years ago. I needed to take a break. I felt that I HAD to post so often...and the joy that I once felt..was no longer there.

I have had quite a few opportunities for ministry over the past few months! God is so faithful!!

I have studied His rich word with diligence....and continue to learn so much! The Lord is such an awesome teacher!!

The weather here believe it or not, has been on the cooler side! All the flowers are in full bloom and the tomatoes and peppers are going crazy! I am finding the balance with so many things in my life right now. I find myself looking at my routines, schedules, and how I spend my time. Time is so very precious! I sense a cutting away of those things that are restrictive and unfruitful use of time. There are so many time wasters....TV...especially!! So I am being very purposeful with the time I have been given.

My soul is rested and my spirit rejuvenated!!! Clearing away things in closets once again...finally planning a yard sale after too much talk about having one...just have to do it!!!

I must get to the Military base..the commissary and stock up on beans, canned foods, rice, meat etc...it is alot cheaper than the regular store! Time to fill up the pantry once again. The prices on food, gas, utilities etc.. keep rising, but I am so thankful that I belong to the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords...for my faith is NOT is this country's system or the world's system...but in God's economy!!!

I want to encourage you in this...that no matter what is happening around us...our Father always watches over His children!!!

Blooming in June

Greetings one and all! Hope this finds each one of you well and enjoying your days!
It has been quite awhile since I last posted...I do apologize, but life is really gearing up for me.
I took a short trip to Florida...which has left me forever changed...:) in a very positive way!
I have been studying the Word of God and really pressing into Him more and more. There is such a hunger and thirst for more of Him...cause God is the only one who truly satisfies!
I have been asked to minister at our Women's Fellowship meeting at the end of the month also! God is opening so many doors its amazing!
Yesterday I spent the afternoon in the backyard with our youngest son Stephen, as he was mowing and edging the lawn. I was clipping, trimming, moving and clearing out.
With the cost of gas at nearly 5.00 a gallon in these parts, more than ever we are staying home more and more. So I am really compelled to create a peaceful haven in our yard and patio. Getting lots of ideas from magazines and books I already have and putting my own personal twist on it! I write down the things that I want to achieve and set out to get it done.
I have lots of pots and planters that I haven never thrown away, so I bought some seeds early in the Spring season and potting soil and set out to do some planting. Our daughter Amie and her boyfriend tore out a hodgepodge of overgrown plants in the flowerbed that runs along our fence. They planted tomatoes, green beans, peppers, assorted chili peppers and herbs! The area is being put to great use now instead of a blah area I didn't really enjoy before! The boys also tore down the gazebo that hubby built. By doing this it actually opened up the yard dramatically!
I will share more ideas and photos in the days ahead!!

Life is coming fast these days! All is well here at my home and hearth...just incredibly fast- paced and busy!

I had been studying to prepare for last Wednesday's service that writing here had taken a back burner so to speak. Thursday morning woke to a scratchy throat and by the end of the day the stuffy nose was along for the ride too!

Needless to say...I was down over the weekend, but felt well enough to go to church on Sunday and then rested the rest of the day.

Today I rested and tidied up the house a little, did some laundry made a pot of homemade chicken and rice soup...just what I needed! Put a little splash of Tabasco...yum!

So much to do in the backyard that the thought overwhelms me. Guess its time for the timer and do a little each day till its done.

We are enjoying extremely cool days here...quite nice after we had record breaking heat in the upper 90's a week ago...love the cool ocean breezes!

My roses are blooming like crazy and picked some for the side table that sits along the sofa and easy chair...they smell heavenly.

Open Doors!

Hello my friends! Life continues to move forward with extraordinary speed it seems these days!!!

The Lord is presenting many open doors for me this season! I am so excited to share with you all that I have been asked to be a speaker at a woman's conference in our area! My relationship with the Lord has taken on a whole new luster....more than ever before!

It is amazing what He is doing in my life and the lives of my husband and children! Such growth for all of us....Praise the Lord!

I am busy with taking care of my home...studying also and working in my yard. Our daughter Amie, planted a garden this year. She planted tomatoes, okra, assorted peppers and herbs! She is so excited about it too! Hubby is especially excited about the okra!! He love it fried!!

We are all finally feeling better from the nasty virus from nearly a month ago...it was a very slow recovery time, but we took it day by day, and prayed for one another through the whole process!

I want to encourage each one of you ladies with this: Do not give up on what God has called you to do!! You may have sensed a call on your life...something that God placed in you that has just stirred in you year after year...knowing that this dream, idea or vision would come to pass, but yet not sure how it would...but having the faith in Him,. trusting Him with your life as it continues to unfold. This has been 20 years in the making and I'm just now stepping out in faith to what God has placed with in me. So stay focused on the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart, after all it is Him and Him alone that placed them there to begin with!!

Enjoy the beginning of a new week...and as you do, I pray that your life takes on a new luster in the presence of the Lord!

Just when we thought that the cold/flu season has left our family...it creeps in again and attempts to set up shop! This past Saturday Hubby took me to the ER for a visit...acute viral bronchitis....now he is down on his back, our daughter Amie has a fever today and is in bed, our son Stephen has had an annoying sore throat for a week and just now feeling better. Today I woke and opened up to bedroom windows and grabbed the Lysol spray and sprayed everything in sight!!!!
We are all just laying low, its all we can do. Lots of fluids and plenty of rest. Been praying alot too...have asked for prayer from our church family and friends, what a blessing this is!
Meanwhile, the day is beautiful, blue skies and loads of sunshine! The air is cool in the shade but warm in the sun....a perfect Springlike day!
I was called yesterday and told that my Mom had fallen. Come to find out she broke her elbow. I called her this morning to see how she is doing, she said she slept good and was resting. Please keep her in your prayers!
In spite of the setbacks that life and the enemy would throw at us...God is greater! That is the one thing that i know for certain today...My Jesus is greater than all of this. Whether its health, family, church, national, or world issues....God is greater and we must look to Him in ALL things, for His wisdom and counsel in our daily walk in this world.
I pray as your read this the love of the Lord Jesus would wash over you afresh and strengthen you as we dwell is the shelter of the Almighty!! God bless you all .....blessings till i speak with you again soon...

Looks like Spring has come!!!

I'm still here and haven't fallen off the face of the Earth! The past few weeks have been so incredibly hard. We have had bouts with the Flu and also some other family issues that have required continued prayer. I remember not long ago a lady that I had met had said something that has stuck with me since that time and she said " In regards to our adult children, there will always be a place for prayer, for the need is great"!! So true!!!

I am feeling better everyday, but this stuff still tries to hang one. Taking each day as it comes...not making alot of plans, just being led of the Lord in what I do. Still continuing to pray for the elections and our country for this is such a pivotal time in our history...especially as a Christian!

Today I'm going to go out into the backyard and take some pictures of the blossoms on the Nectarine tree and the Flowering Plum...they are just gorgeous.

My heart is so full with thankfulness for all that the Lord Jesus has done in my life. He continues to amaze me everyday and let me know that He is with me and my family.. providing, guiding, directing and loving us. Lord I am amazed by you and how you love me!!!

I hope that each of you are well and enjoying your sunny days! Spring is on its way!!!

Valentine Wishes....

Its been a few weeks since my last post and for that I do apologize. While I'm feeling better, I'm still not 100% yet. By the afternoon time, my energy has waned terribly.

I am drinking lots of fluids and resting when I can, basically taking care of myself. Hubby was sick too and didn't go to work for 2 days. He finally went to the doctor and recieved some antibiotics. I toughed it out!!! Now our daughter is feeling awful too. I am trying to get my daily routines done be it all so slowly!

I have been able to read and study alot in my bible that past few weeks and this has blessed me greatly! I hope to get back to regular posting very soon. I hope this finds all of you well and enjoying your day! Blessings and Happy Valentines Day!!! Thank you for your well wishes too!! XO

I cannot believe that we are in the month of February already! Time seems to be picking up momentum these days.

We have another chance of rain tonight...makes for such a great nights sleep!

This is a photo I took several weeks ago of the master bedroom and my new down blanket (comforter) that I received for Christmas. I have been spending alot of time here recently since I have been sick and quite under the weather.

Cold symptoms came on 2 days ago, and Hubby is feeling the effects too. I have been taking mullein leaf which is a natural decongestant as well as Zicam, echinachea and lots of hot tea with honey and fresh lemons from our tree.

It is vital that we get plenty of rest and lots of fluids as we recover, but I started to really think about the idea of a "Feel Better" basket, just the thing when your not feeling well. You won't be caught off guard when the cold or flu bug strikes.

Find a nice sized basket to put all the neccessities: a few vintage hankies, some lace edged socks to keep the chill away and of course box of soft tissues. A small container of Vicks vaporub, Vitamin- C drops, cough drops, thermometer, bottles waters or some of those popular vitamin waters. Of course you must add some great magazines and a favorite read. Pampering yourself is so vital when you feeling badly...cozy bed covers, fluffed up pillows and your Feel Better basket!

Then when you finally on the mend you can have a coffee or tea tray just for you! A hearty mug or delicate tea cup. Flavored creamers: my favorite Hazelnut, or perhaps some Chai tea, a small place of your favorite delicacies...cookies, scones or mini muffins, a small tealight candle. Carry your tray to your little peaceful corner and unwind.

These are just a few ideas that have been mulling around in the mind as I've been resting the past few days. Hope you are well and enjoying your family fun time!! Blessings always.....Mindy

We have had so much rain in the past week. We have needed it badly here in California, so I am grateful for it! We the skies look formidable, I look to the comfort aspects of home. I needed some more storage for the master bath, so I thought of this little idea...an old suitcase! I purchased it years ago at a thrift shop and the stand was bought at a yard sale...the whole look cost me a mere $5.00! Since this picture was taken...the perfumes are on the vanity, and the bath towels along with the washcloths now fill this space. I continue to pare down and simplify were I can. This can be rather difficult when you have a hubby who wants to keep everything!!! He has said that THIS Spring, the garage gets the de-clutter treatment...I for one cannot wait for this!!!

The new college semester has started, so the kids are once again focused on their studies. With the house being so quiet I lose myself in creative thoughts and find myself doing quite alot more writing these days! Being very purposeful in writing down ideas, snippets of information or pearls of wisdom that come my way.

The laundry is being taken care of, the bill paying done and the organizer all updated. Dinner is waiting to be cooked....Blackened Salmon, Basmati Rice with Veggies and a Salad. My candles are lit in the rooms downstairs, as I once again feel the urge to create and putter about. Have a lovely evening...blessings to you and yours always.

Morning Musing

Happy Friday! I've been up since 345 this morning....the sun has yet to rise here on the West Coast..but looking East towards the horizon, daybreak isn't to far away. I had a crazy dream that has kept me awake. Got up and made some coffee and have my devotional time with the Lord.

The New Year has brought forth some busy days for me thus far. While I enjoy the busyness...I am so thankful for the days where there isn't anything planned, no appointments to go to, but able to putter around the house and attend to things here at home.

I am relishing these cooler days, it is so invigorating to me! I seem to thrive in the cold weather!! Able to make some changes to the decor of my home, moving a few things about to bring a different look. The cozy throws, as well as my candles are getting quite a workout too!

Today brings laundry and puttering!! First stop is the master bedroom. Bringing some more order to our dresser drawers and layering a few tablecloths for my bedside table to soften the look and break up all the wood pieces a bit. I found a crocheted piece a few years ago at a yard sale, then last year at the thrift shop, found a lovely damask square. I love using these 2 together.

Dinner for tonight is a pan of Lasagna, garlic bread, and tossed green salad! Simple and hearty too!

This weekend I'm going to finish up gathering the remaining items needed for our taxes. We already had our preliminary appointment with our tax man!! Just have to set aside time to get this accomplished.

A Sweet Fragrance...

I picked these roses from our yard just a few days ago. Using my grandmother's antique pitcher, I arranged them and put them up on the mantle. After the Christmas decorations have been taken down, the house seemed rather empty. These started blooming at the right time, and they longed to be picked! We have had freezing temperatures a few weeks ago...so these pretties we quite a surprise for me!

Been doing some purging and de-cluttering the past few days. I started on the desk yesterday and thankfully it is done now! The files are purged and drawers are organized. It is a great feeling to have this part done!! The closets as well as cabinets will all be gone through this winter.

We had rain last night as today..with the promise of more tomorrow. We need it so much in this area. Hubby and I went over to Sam's Club and purchased some groceries, as all the kids were to be here tonight to spend the night with us. We had chili dogs for dinner and I made some cookies as we watched Shrek 3, which our Grandson Nicholas loves! Its one of those cozy comfort of home kind of weekends...I dearly love these times!!

Tomorrow after church.. my plans are to cook up a big batch of soup and foccacia bread, light a few candles, gather up my cozy throw and curl up with a few magazines I purchased..along with my journal in case I come across something that inspires me and just enjoy the cold rainy day!

We are driving to our friends' home this afternoon to spend our New Years eve together with them! We have done this for the past 3 or 4 years and all of us enjoy the time spent together. The kids all get together as well and we enjoy a fire in the chimenea outside as well as a roaring fire in the fireplace. It is a relaxing time spent with loved ones...creating memories and sharing stories of our childhoods.

Yesterday I took down the Christmas tree and the decorations...while I so enjoy decking the halls for the Christmas season, I also enjoy it being gently packed away for another year as I look to rearranging, puttering and nesting for the New Year. I changed some decorative items around, edited others and generally freshened up the rooms a bit. Tomorrow after I get home I plan on cutting some roses that are blooming in the front yard! I can't believe they are blooming..I will post a picture of them...just gorgeous!

Time to fold some clothes and pack up a few things to take with us today. Whatever you may find yourself doing this day..whether it is cooking a big NewYears' eve feast for your loved ones, or enjoying some quiet time watching old movies, have a most blessed New Year!

Good Morning!! I woke to sunshine and cold winds! The sky is so crystal clear...it is beautiful. Sipping on my first cup of coffee for the morning...tastes so good. I have a load of laundry going already...as I feel I'm playing catch up with that task.

Hope to have the household chores done by 10am as I have an appointment at the nail salon...my treat for myself! It has been a peaceful Christmas season for us thus far...just enjoying the time with our family..playing marathon games of scrabble in the evenings, baking cookies and my favorite...reading.

With the presents wrapped and gently placed under the tree waiting to be given to loved ones, it marks a very special time for me. I reflect on the year that is coming to a close....the lessons that I have learned and guidance received from the Wonderful Counselor, and the peace that comes from knowing the Prince of Peace...that in spite of any storm that comes...He is there...He is Emmanuel.....God with us. Seeing circumstances turnaround so suddenly...knowing that the Mighty God we serve has touched the situation, and the Everlasting Father giving correction and instruction to bring us to the place of true humbleness and dependence on Him. We can choose to go our own way....live our lives in our own strength....giving Him only this part or that part...giving only a part of ourselves...or give all to Him as He gave His all to us...in the Son and Savior Jesus Christ. I encourage you to take time before the new year to reflect on your life and allow the Lord to show you the places He has been with you...in the dark times ...the joyous times,through transition and growth in your relationship with Him.

May you and yours have a wonderful day filled with peace and joy!!

Thoughts for today....

Greetings!! It has been awhile since my last post. Life is happening around me...which is a wonderful thing!!

I have been going over to my friend's house after prayer the past few days, and praying for her and reading some bible scriptures to her as well. She is such a fighter, and always full of encouragement to us all! This afternoon I took over some homemade Italian Meatball soup for the family and ran upstairs quickly and looked in on her, she smiled sweetly when she saw me...I gave her a quick kiss on the forehead and let her know that soup was on!

I came home and started some laundry...lit some candles throughout the house and put on my Christmas cd's and started taking care of my routines here at my home. It is so grounding to come home and start taking care of the tasks needing to be done. Fixing dinner, folding the clothes and tidying up...such simple things to do, but it calms me.

Tomorrow I will venture out to Sam's Club to purchase a few things. Along with the normal items to purchase...I plan to pick up a bouquet of flowers! Fresh flowers during the Christmas season is a beautiful thing to me...a simple pleasure and one thing I do to pamper myself!

It is such an enjoyable Christmas season for me. Planning early on really helped me greatly. But just deciding to simplify has made a huge difference for me. Here are just a few little simple things to make your Christmas season special:

The past few months I have had the wonderful gift of this particular woman's acquaintance and now friendship. She has been battling cancer for 2 years now. It was in remission for a period of time and it has come back again.

I have driven her to prayer for the past few weeks, which is such a privilege for me! She is amazingly open and quite honest. When she prays...it is so simple...right from her heart....with such childlike faith. I have learned so much from her. She was given gift cards for food for her family from our church...she opened the envelope that the church helper gave her...she gently layed them on the chair that she had her legs propped up on. She turned to one of the gentlemen in the group that we have prayed for regarding employment. She inquired of him if they had enough food for Thanksgiving...he answered.." We are fine"....she picked up the gift cards for the grocery store and said.."please take them for your wife and child". I sat there and as tears welled up in my eyes, realizing that I saw the love of God in action. She gave in spite of her own pain, need, and struggle. She knew that he needed it more than she and her family did. She continues to inspire me everyday. Little things...wanting to pray for others, to bless others no matter how she may be feeling. So selfless. This is just one of the acts that I have witnessed lately.

It is a humbling place to be...to see one who is wrecked with pain, so thin and barely able to eat...and asks you how YOUR feeling, and if she can help you in anyway. She speaks truth with love and encourages others on in their faith in Jesus. She has such a heart for the lost, and witnesses at the hospital all the time!!

The Christmas season I have been given such a beautiful gift. The gift of Christ's love in action. Seeing His love being poured forth in this woman and all she touches.

I felt I needed to share this with you...to share this testimony, to encourage you on in your walk with Jesus. Be a blessing to another...you may never know how you may change another life, but know that your life will be forever changed because of it.

Simplicity for the season....

We had a lovely Thanksgiving holiday!! How was yours?

This morning after tidying the house...I find myself putting away the Autumn decor and bringing out a few Christmas touches a little at a time. I do a little each day..that way I don't have boxes everywhere and I'm not exhausted at the end of the day!

After ordering a few gifts online yesterday, I felt such a sense of accomplishment!! I try to stay away from the malls on the weekends, and hit the stores during the week just after dinner to avoid the "rush". The Christmas rush to me has no place in the season!! We should be able to relax and enjoy our family and friend's at this most blessed time of year. I have learned to plan and make lists, tis' the only way for me.

In the book I'm reading "A Woman's Christmas~ Returning to the Gentle Joys of the Season", has really affirmed the fact that less is truly more! The introduction states this..."A Woman's Christmas is a return to the simplicity and the joy of this most wondrous season. No overly elaborate organizer, no recipe book crammed with complicated menus, no advocate of late-night wrapping frenzies and season-long spending sprees, this volume instead offers ideas and inspirations for celebrating with uncomplicated pleasure. Above all, it demonstrates how the small personal touch is still the supreme gift of Christmas~decorating home and hearth with natural materials, selecting or making gifts of tender thoughtfulness, contributing time and energy to one's community, and enjoying the uniqueness of the season itself." Beautifully stated!

So words of gentle wisdom that I will hold onto for this Christmastime and in the future years. I always ask of the Lord to bring across our path another family that we can bless and show the Love of Christ, especially this time of year. Every year since I've prayed that prayer....He indeed has brought people to us...and every year we have the awesome privilege to be a blessing to others. It isn't just a Christmas season duty either...this is how I live. God has blessed us so much, that I want to share with others. Hubby and I are in agreement too....We get the kids together and go out to deliver the gifts, ring the doorbell and run to the car! To see the faces of those who come to the door...there is nothing like it!!

Dinner is simple...Salmon patties, Mac n' Cheese, and salad. After all the rich foods over the past few days....this works for me. The kids are home from classes already and I will enlist their help in bringing in a few boxes. We will open them up and recount the memories of each precious treasure, and enjoy the afternoon.

Here are a few Christmas inspirations from my house to yours~

~ Simmer some mulling spices on the stove....make your own using cinnamon,cloves, orange peel, and vanilla~ Smells divine...

~Tie up some festive holiday hand towels with pretty organza ribbon and place on your bath vanity...

~Fill antique bowls, urns, and buckets with pine cones and stick a ribbon wired to a chopstick amongst the pine cones and set out on your stair landing, porch, patio, and entryways...simple but so pretty...

~Gather up some of your favorite Christmas reading and wrap with some beautiful plaid ribbon and fashion it into a pretty bow and place on your coffee table or your cozy reading corner....

These are just a few to get started for this beautiful Christmas season.

Good morning!!

Today brings about the fluffing up of the nest just a little. Lighting some candles as I go about to get the tasks done on my list. The weather is getting quite chilly at night, so its time to pull out the flannel sheets! I love them...they are so comfy and cozy. They feel wonderful on a cold night. I have 2 sets of them, one set is a Christmas red and the other is Scottish plaid! Today the Christmas red set goes on!!

The throws that I have are all being laundered and folded to be used as needed. The pillows fluffed up, Christmas books set out to peruse through and capture some ideas from. Wonderful smells of cinnamon and cloves gently simmering on the back of the stove bringing such a heartwarming fragrance to the house. These are my favorite moments...simplicity at its finest, to create an atmosphere of comfort and warmth within my home.

I have been re-reading the book" A Woman's' Christmas", published by Victoria magazine. It it full of simple pleasures for the Christmas season and perhaps I can bring a few of these ideas to you here!

Monday's happenings....

Settling in for the afternoon, after a very busy morning. After prayer at church, I was off to the market to get the last few items needed for our Thanksgiving feast.

We are actually having 2 dinners! One of Thursday at my Mom's house with my siblings and their family members, then another on Friday, that our kids are going to cook!!

I bought 2 turkeys to deep fry..Hubby gets to do that job!!

Amie our daughter has planned a menu for Friday which sounds wonderful, and best of all...the kids are all pitching in to help!!

As I write this, it is quiet throughout the house....just the sweet music playing in the background soothing my soul. Made a pot of coffee to which, I poured a cup along with some peppermint mocha creamer....delicious....and just relaxing. I made a pot of chicken soup and added some left over veggies, chicken, rice and later some noodles. Stephen (our son) made some fresh bread in the bread maker, so it smells quite good here!

I blessed the home as I do every Monday, put the house in order, which it badly needed, and now I sit to collect my thoughts.

To each of you a huge thank you for your prayers and encouragement over the past few weeks. What a huge support you all have been!!! It has been hard, but with prayer and perseverance we move ahead, for God is with us. Thank you again~

Are any of you planning on going to the after Thanksgiving sales? We may take a drive to the Military Base near us and check out the sales...but I don't think I'll be getting up at 3am to stand in line!!! We have suffered loss in our family. Our dear daughter-in-law Samantha had a miscarriage on Tuesday. Our son Ryan called Monday to tell us the news, that it wasn't looking good at all. He was stunned and grieving, but still we prayed and held onto Hope. The tests confirmed the loss of the little one yesterday.

The past week or so has been unreal. It seemed to be one challenge or another. But, I continue to stand...speaking and believing God's word for my family and loved ones. Praying for those who grieve, forgiving those who have hurt us so deeply, and moving forward one step at a time.

May you all be richly blessed in all that our Lord has for you!!

Friday musings...

It has been an emotional few days. Lots going on here at the homestead that had brought much chaos and confusion to our home. I won't go into detail, but today is indeed a new day and peace abounds once again in our home!

I have been busy making lists for the upcoming holiday season. Gathering the seasonal recipes, taking stock of what I have in the pantry and going over the budget for Christmas gifts. I have bought 2 gifts already!!! I made a Holiday notebook 2 years ago and this has been such a blessing to me! I keep recipes, gift lists, shopping lists, where the decorations go each year. It really is so helpful!

The flannel sheets have been added to our beds...which means...its getting chilly here in Southern California!!! I love the cold weather....I feel so energized! It is a cloudy and cool day today..perfect for a hot cup of tea, some Christmas idea books, and plenty of candles!

The kids are camping in the mountains this weekend. Hubby and I have the house to ourselves!! Perhaps dinner and a movie is in the works. We will have Nicholas our grandson tomorrow night...I haven't seen him since I have been home from Branson...I miss the little man so much!

I am sharing some beautiful pictures of Branson...the countryside is just gorgeous....green rolling hills, and the colors of the trees in their Autumn splendor were breathtaking!!! I hope you enjoy them...and I will be dropping in for a visit today and throughout the weekend!

I made it home from Branson on Tuesday! We had a wonderful time! The conference was life changing for me....I thank the Lord for sending me there!!!

I am getting back to my routines, be it all so slowly! Still waking up at 530 in the morning...Missouri time, while it is 330 am California time!!! Makes for a long day, but so fruitful.

I start taking care of my Grandson Nicholas on Monday for a short duration!! Our son called us and told us that we are going to be grandparents again!!! Samantha, our dear daughter in law is about 6 weeks along now!!! We are thrilled!!!

Tomorrow I will be leaving for Branson. I will be attending a prayer conference with a few ladies from church. I am so excited about going!!!

It has been a whirlwind of events this past week...lots of answered prayer and breakthroughs too! We attended a family reunion yesterday...it was wonderful to see all my cousins and my Aunt and Uncle that I haven't seen in 10 years! What a blessing it was!!

Been packing today for the trip..and watching the TV about the wildfires in our region. There are currently 12 fires causing so much devastation. My dear Hubby has been at work since 6am and will be working through the night and into the afternoon tomorrow, restoring power to over 18,000 homes! All the fire and utility crews are stretched to the limit so please keep us here in California in your prayers!!

I will take plenty of pictures to post when I return....but until then....Be blessed and enjoy your Autumn Days!

This is our newest member of the family! While she LOVES to chew on everything....she sure is a cutie! She is adapting to her new home and family. We got her at 89 weeks and she has grown so much since coming here. Our other dog Star hasn't been as welcoming as we had hoped, but we are still trying to introduce them to each other everyday.

On the agenda today is: cleaning out the pantry, and going through my closet. Doing some packing for my upcoming trip to Branson next week!

Cozy Up...

Warm greetings to you! Thank you all for the lovely birthday wishes! You are all such a blessing to me!!!

A soft hint of vanilla is wafting through the house as I have lit some candles already today. We are expecting rain later, so to welcome the rain, candles have indeed been lit and I am enjoying the soft glow and delectable fragrance.

A pot of chicken noodle soup and homemade bread will be just the thing for dinner tonight. Hearty and simple and we all love soup in this family! Just keeping the pot simmering on the back of the stove while I get the remaining chores done around the house, Laundry and cleaning out the kitchen pantry. A trip to Lowe's this afternoon to purchase some Mums for the front and back porches will complete the Autumn decorating here at my home.

With the Fall season upon us, I will be back to regular posting.. at least a few times a week. I have felt "off kilter", "out of balance"..'something's not right" for sometime. After seeking the Lord in prayer, He has shown me that there were areas in my life that I had been neglecting. So with His help once again, re-prioritizing my days and the time spent on the computer.

Well today Is my birthday! Yippee for me!!!

My family planned a surprise birthday party for me this past Saturday! What a blessing it was having my family here to celebrate. A few family members were not able to attend because of work...they were missed greatly, but certainly there is spirit!

The kids planned a brunch with scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, fruit salad, and lots of assorted pastries! It was delicious! A few bouquets of fresh flowers were given to me...they are just beautiful! Hubby took me out in the morning and we walked around the "Old Town" area at all the antiques, and perused the Farmer's Market as well. The entire day was such a blessing to me...and so greatly appreciated!!!

Today I've blessed the home as I always do on Monday mornings, have a pan of Lasagna in the oven bubbling away. All that is needing to be done is to make a tossed salad and dinner is done. A friend from the prayer group at church came to see me today and brought a lovely potted Tiger Lily! So thoughtful.....I am extremely thankful for the relationships that the Lord has given me....my heart is so full!

Tonight will be spent with the family and enjoying the remainder of my birthday cake and taking in this beautiful season of color!

Welcoming a New Season...

The Autumn season is upon us, and here at my home it certainly feels like it too! I woke to a gentle drizzle of rain this morning. What a lovely gift!

I am feeling better, but the fatigue and chronic pain remains and at times it is rather overwhelming. I try not to complain, but continue doing what I must do to take care of myself, family and home.

I have been working in my room this week and purging things and rearranging too. The new placement of things just give such a fresh feel.

I was watching my grandson yesterday and he is quite the helper with the vacuum! He loves it! I just turned it on and let him go...he was very pleased with himself being grandma's helper.

The new puppy is getting adjusted here too. She is adorable. Our other dog Star is having an issue with her, but this too shall pass in time. We are taking little steps in introducing them to each other.

I have taken some pictures of our home with its Fall colors displayed. As I have mentioned before, just adding a few things make such a huge difference. Candles, cozy throws, pillows, pine cones mixed with some cinnamon potpourri in bowls and trays. Time to make another visit to the "Apple Country" and get apples for the season. My mother lives 10 minutes down the mountain from the local orchards, and I recently made a trip up their with my brother and purchased some "Rome Beauty's"...they are delicious...and are going fast, so another trip is in the works!

The kids started cleaning out the spare room to make it into a study/entertainment room. It forced all of us to purge some things that needed to be purged. They are very happy with the look of it, and I'm just thrilled that they have a certain place just to study, instead of their rooms!

This afternoon my daughter and I will run to Target to get some household staples and perhaps enjoy a stop at Starbuck's! She wants to make a cake this weekend for my birthday...what a sweetie!! For dinner I'm making Chicken and Dumplings which is hearty and simple to make.

I am hoping to enjoy a quiet afternoon and evening with a good book and maybe playing a game with the family...we love "Scattergories"!! How will you be spending your evening? Thank you for your thoughtfulness and concern the past few days. I am feeling much better, taking better care of myself and prioritizing my life yet again. The weather here the past few days has been glorious!! Very cool mornings and bright blue skies, giving way to warm sunshine in the afternoons with some ocean breezes! Even though the Autumn season doesn't officially begin until September 23rd, I have already started adding little Fall hued vignettes throughout the house. Nothing on a grand scale, just little nuances here and there.

I started off with the family room, since that is the room we gather in. The mantle was first, with my new candle holders, clock, topiary, and Autumn florals. Adding a pair of antiqued Turtledoves, I am very pleased with the result!

Monday morning brought prayer at the church and then to the mall to exchange a a couple of T-shirts i purchased in a smaller size.....yippee!!!

Started on the home blessing this afternoon, and generally tidying up the house. Felt good to get back to my routines once again.

As I continue to add Fall touches to my home, indoors and out, I will take photos and post them for you to see. I so enjoy taking a peek into your homes and seeing all your creative touches.

We have a new addition to our family too...a new dog!! She is an adorable cocker spaniel puppy about 12 weeks, and her name is Loralie....my daughter named her as this is her dog!!

It has been a very productive and busy day, right now I'm off the get the brownies out of the oven and finish cleaning up the kitchen.

rest, keep warm, drink plenty of liquids....

I woke up yesterday morning feeling a quart low. Headache, body aches, and congestion. I made the bed, started some laundry while I still had the energy to do it....and then rested the remaining part of the day.

Today I have done the same thing...feeling energized this morning enough to run to Target for laundry items and the such...and as soon as I came home, the energy decreased. i am using some mullein leaf extract for head and chest congestion along with Zicam. I did lie down for a quick nap this afternoon as well. With the temperatures cooler, it was a delight to cover up with the pretty pink quilt at the foot of the bed.

Drinking lots of fluids and just resting is all that can be done. Folding clothes and putting them away in between times of rest. In spite of feeling puny....thank the Lord I am able to get a few things done....so grateful for this!

I have my pumpkin spice candle lit...and what I can smell of it....is just yummy! I arranged some red silk geraniums (I purchased from my sister's Home Interior's business) inside my vintage metal milk can along with the usual sunflowers, in the garden window....it looks beautiful and very autumnal. I have alot more to do adding touches here and there, but it will have to wait till I am fully up and running again.

Whew is it ever hot! The temperature was 107 yesterday, today it was 105! It is supposed to be this way throughout the holiday weekend. Oh Autumn please come soon!!!

We may get some rain from afternoon thunderstorms and this would be most welcome right now! I continue to get my housework done either early in the morning or late in the evening, run the appliances at those times as well, just to conserve where we can.

I received my order from Home Interiors that I placed from my younger sister yesterday, it was like Christmas morning for me!!! Candles, garlands, a topiary, candleholders etc...what fun it will be once I begin to decorate for the Autumn season. Most everything can be used year round, with simple changes of candles and flowers!

As the heat seems to drag on...I can't help but look towards Autumn. Every year I do this....wait for the first evening to display a hint of Fall crispness in the air. Once here, its soups and stews for this home! Nothing better than having a pot of homemade soup simmering in the back of the stove with some good crusty bread!

I had to go to Target to get a new vacuum, as my last one exploded! I settled on the Bissell " Healthy Home"....it cleans like a dream and the hose is extra long which is wonderful for the stairs! So today..I vacuumed everything!!!

What are your plans for the holiday weekend? Going somewhere or staying home? We will be going our our friend's home on Sunday, but other than that, we are staying home...getting a few things done around here in spite of the heat!

Encouragement.....

Its been nearly a week since I last posted. I have attempted to post more often, but the writing just wouldn't come.

It has been a busy week as our youngest son Stephen started back to college this past Tuesday and our daughter Amie starts next week. They both have been busy with cleaning out their rooms and getting organized for the school year! I have been here puttering along at home, taking care of things and putting out fires as needed!

I feel as I'm entering into a season of transition. I am seeking the Lord more than ever, as I being thrust into the purpose and destiny He has for me. I come before Him to find wisdom, clarity, peace and direction, and as always He freely gives it. With the home attended to and things being done, this has freed me up to seek His Presence more. I pour over scriptures that I have read many times before, but now, instead of having the head knowledge and understanding with my mind.....the heart knowledge has come and understanding by His Holy Spirit. Sometimes as I sit as wait upon Him, His Presence fills the room and I weep, for In His presence in fullness of joy and much comfort....for one moment with the Lord will indeed change your life!

The laundry is being done, the dishwasher is humming along,and the beautiful worship music fills the air with such a serene melody, I have peace, such peace that only comes from Him. As I go about my day, The Lord is with me, every step of the way...making a way for me when there doesn't seem to be one. Being at home at this season of my life is such a blessing, I embrace it! Some may think it mundane to stick to a schedule or routine, but our lives must have order in them or it is utter chaos! He has taught me to be a good steward of everything He has giving me, including my time. Trying to achieve some kind of balance in my own strength only lead to frustration and guilt for not hitting the mark. In seeking the Lord, He brings balance and order to my life. Helps me plan my days, reminds me to pay this or that. He is certainly with me in the "Big" happenings in life, but He is always there in the 'little things" working on the details, working it out on my behalf.....oh how I take great comfort in that.

I have tried to live my life many times in my own strength, but eventually, having to give that part over to Him, and still learning that lesson. I am still in process...thank the Lord....He is still doing a good work in me.

To show my transparency as a Christian woman, the realness of my life.... that in spite of transitions, shiftings, siftings, changes, obstacles and difficulties...that God is with us in every circumstance! He gives us the strength to go through the valleys in life...but we must go through them, not take up a place of habitation in the valley. The joy of the Lord is our strength...His strength becomes our Joy to enable us to go through those difficult times! I write this to not only encourage myself, but to you as well....I send to you my prayers for peace in the midst of any storm you may be facing, the joy of the Lord which is your strength and clarity, direction and balance that only He can bring. Blessings to you today.......

Making every minute count...

Summer is counting down despite the soaring temperatures here this past week. I have been trying to focus on the tasks needing to be done, but when its so hot you don't even want to move, this becomes rather difficult!!!

I enjoy the afternoons once the routines of the day have been done, I can grab a book, drink some blueberry iced tea and enjoy a few moments of peace and refreshment!

For today, I am focusing on our bathrooms, just purging and decluttering once again, laundry needing to be done, and just some fluffing of my nest!

The party last Sunday for our daughter Amie was just wonderful! Everyone had a good time, with plenty of food and conversation. Thank you for all your well wishes for her and celebrating with us! I have posted a few pictures from the party along with some of hubby on his new motorcycle!

Dear daughter has come up with a wonderful idea of turning our spare room into a study/gameroom/guest room! Both of the kids do need a place to study...and this will be perfect, while keeping their bedrooms free of school papers, books etc. Tomorrow she will start on this,and I will oversee the project! I can see a huge yard sale coming on the horizon!

With bills paid , breakfast done, I'm ready to jump into this day, pacing myself and relishing in the fluffing of my nest! I wish you a day of refreshing!! Blessings...

Simple Things....

Taking a break from the activities of the day, so sit down have my lunch and relax for a few moments.

Shortly after I woke up this morning and got ready for the day, I took off to the store to get a few things needed for the house, and wanted to get that done before the heat of the day set it.

It has been rather nice temperatures the last week or so. I haven't had to run the A/C at all...thank the Lord, but this weekend they are forecasting it to be in the 100's yet again!

Just a few things left to do before the party on Sunday. I cleaned the carpets yesterday and they really needed them anyway, perfect time to do it and they dried in no time too!

I am fully enjoying my Summer days and nights. Waking early of a summer morning, I come downstairs and open up all the doors, turn on a few fans to get the air moving, and get the coffee started. I will grab my bible and go sit out in the backyard patio and have my devotional time with the Lord, amidst the sights and sounds of nature waking to greet the Creator too! In the evening once its cooled down, a few candles are lit inside and out on the patio, a book or magazine is grabbed up and then settle in to watch the birds at the feeders, and the shadows of the early evening twilight to show up....the breezes come, and causes the windchimes to dance as the winds creates such a pretty sound. This are peaceful times for me.....taking pleasure in the simplest of things....the days beginning and its ending. Something I do not take for granted...I cherish these times...and so grateful for them.

Summer Moments....

The new patio set.... and new furniture arrangement in the family room...

Coffee has been made and I'm enjoying my first cup of the day! Hubby and I sat outside on our new dining patio set that was given to us by our dear friends (family to us) and enjoyed the morning unfold. The gentle breeze and the sound of water is just so relaxing and a lovely way to start the day. He will be finishing up on the stonework on the wall today, and I'm catching up on laundry and tidying up the patio.

Our daughter is graduating from the community college and receiving her AA, then will be transferring over to Cal State in a few weeks! In honor of her accomplishments, we are giving her a party to celebrate! She has invited family and friend's to come, and the menu has been planned! Sub- sandwiches, fruit platter, Basil/cilantro pasta salad ( my daughter makes this, delicious) potato salad, chips and dips...and of course cake! A very simple affair, easy menu, festive decorations and lots of memories being made, she is so excited! This takes place next Sunday, and of course I will post photos of the celebration!

Hubby informed me that football season starts the end of this month! This is one football lovin' family....of course I could take a good book or magazine and go into the living room, while they are in the family room cheering on their favorite teams, and that wouldn't bother me one bit! The hotwings get fried up with hubbies favorite sauce, chips and dips are in their bowls, sodas and iced iced tea are at the ready before kickoff. Every Saturday is game day here....Hubby's favorite team is OU...as a native from Oklahoma, that just makes sense!

The yards has been mowed and edged, the smell of fresh cut grass is one summertime favorite of mine! The grapes are starting to turn a lovely light purple and the time of harvesting a bunch is near. The apricot tree is yielding its bounty as well...lots this year and so sweet too! But soon, the yard will start to take on a different kind of luster, that of the Autumn season!

Autumn is my favorite time of year...the sky seems to become a little more blue, and the sun "feels" different, every year this happens....one morning it just changes, and that is so amazing to me. I look forward to this time every year! But for now....I am enjoying the Summer season, capturing and savoring the moments that Summer brings! Have a peaceful weekend enjoying your Summer moments!

What a lovely day it was today! I went to prayer this morning at church as I usually do Monday through Friday, paid a few bills and then started cleaning and fluffing the nest.

I vacuumed all furniture in the living room and took down the curtains and swags from the windows and washed them...rehung them damp and they smelled like Roses and Violets (courtesy of Downey)...heavenly as they dried. Dusted the bookcase, dusted the tables and rearranged a few things to freshen the room! Washed the throw pillows and put them back in their places. The room looks fresh and clean and then tomorrow I will take care of the entrance and the dining room!!

Our dear cat Koo still hasn't come home yet...He is greatly missed. Thank you for such warm thoughts, prayers and support. What a blessing you all are.

While it was a lovely day today...cooler than it has been only in the low 90's...I didn't turn on the A/C at all..just opened up all the windows and let the house air out and the breezes in...My mind wonders to the Autumn season. It is my favorite time of year!! I am journaling some of the different ways to celebrate the season....from adding touches to your current decor to hearty recipes to usher in the changing of seasons!

It seems to me that I have entered into another season myself...having to let go...again!

Letting go of the past and the things that would attempt to try and weigh you down. It is a painful place to be at times, but also one of tremendous liberty and freedom. All of us experience this in our lives..especially if we are Christians. The Lord requires that we let go and choose to forgive...for as long as we hold on to things, issues, pains, rejections, offenses we are still bound to the situation. He wants to move on our behalf...but if we hold on to this "stuff", He can't. God must get us to a place of complete surrender! This isn't a "one time thing" either. For as long as we walk in this world their will be trials, and tribulations, But God has promised to deliver us out of each one of them. We have to do our part....and let go and surrender those things that would so easily hinder and beset us...giving it over to Him. This is where I am at right now....and I am so thankful for this time....it is a time of growth, and a time where God shows Himself strong and I am able to be still and come to Him with child-like faith yet again...at another level ,as I yield to the transformation by the Holy Spirit of God. He is faithful, and He love us with an ever-lasting love. I take comfort in knowing this...that He is with me...all the time, I am never alone.

" Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith: who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God."

A Birthday Weekend!

It is a very special weekend! Today is our oldest son Ryan's birthday! He is 26 years old...hard for me to believe! They grow up so fast!! Now he has a little boy of his own and that would be Nicholas...and his 2nd birthday is tomorrow! But today...we celebrate both of their birthday's at the local park!! The first picture shown is taken at the hospital shortly after Nicholas Elijah was born, with his daddy holding him....the next photo sows Ryan and Nicholas on Christmas day cuddling...love that picture...and lastly Nicholas posing for his picture!! Happy Birthday to our dear son...we are so proud of you and the man you have become!! Happy birthday dear Nicholas...you are a joy to every life you have touched! God bless you both always!!!!

Greetings to you!! It is a brand new day and a new week begins as well. It was a rather sad few days here at times, with the disappearance of our Beloved cat, Koo. I would go out to the stream area behind to house and call out to him...hoping he would come...but he didn't and still hasn't. After talking with my daughter this past weekend, we realize how blessed we were to have had him in our lives, and that we loved him and he loved us....and that it is time to move ahead!

Hubby and I drove off to Orange County on Saturday and he purchased a brand new motorcycle! While I still think they are unsafe...he did this just to take it out for awhile on the weekends to relax! We went to a few antique stores as well, found a lovely footed silver platter! It will be used throughout the year as the centerpieces on the dining room table change along with the seasons. After our shopping and purchasing, we had a delightful dinner out, just the two of us! We came home, put our feet up and relaxed!

Sunday morning came and up for church services....then home to putter around the house. Some items were changed in our master bedroom....pared down accessories and edited a few items, and I am enjoy the newness of it!

Monday morning brought clouds and promises for rain...of which I have seen a few sprinkles so far. Up and ready for the day, I drove to prayer at church then went to Trader Joes to get a few things... a few dollars later and a flower bouquet in my arms, it was time to come home and put food away and bless my humble abode!!!

Sad day...

Our beloved cat Koo has come up missing. We have had him for 10 years at least. It is a sad day indeed. It has been a few days since we have last seen him....he is like a part of the family. I prayed about this and released it to the Lord. I haven't alot to say right now and will be taking a break for a few days. Blessings to you and yours always.....

These are just some of the pictures that we're taken yesterday. Nicholas our grandson spent some time with Grandma and Grandpa! We played outside a bit and then blew bubbles...he loves oranges as you can see! Our Son#1 and Daughter -in-law spent the night last night, it was a wonderful morning, waking up and the house stuffed with my family! Hubby and I started making blueberry pancakes, sausage, eggs and fruit! We all ate together and enjoyed the morning as it came. Hubby's friend came up to visit, soon they took off to go look at motorcycles....the kids packed up and left for home to get want needed to be done for the beginning of the week. Dear daughter spent the night with her friend at the beach. Son #2 ate then went back to bed to sleep before work today. I read a little of my bible this morning, and started to get tired....decided to get moving and get some things done. I grabbed my apron tied it on and started in. As I cleaned the kitchen ...I filled the sink basin with cold water and added some Eucalyptus and Lavender essential oils. The fragrance permeated the air and I felt rejuvenated! I loaded the dishwasher, wiped the counters down, started a load of laundry, and tidied up the family room. The A/C is turned on and now I'm relaxing for the day. A Victoria magazine and a few books are on the agenda for me today. The other pictures our of the laundry room. I hung a shelf found a a yard sale for 3.00...the picture, doily, antique bobbin, ribbon, little wire hearts and silk hydrangea I had already, so together they went to create this little vignette. My laundry room is in the garage, and while it must be functional, it must be pretty too. I have intended to paint it for some time, it one project that keeps getting put off. So until the painting is done...this works for me just fine. Takes a mundane task such as laundry and really makes it enjoyable for me!
This afternoon once it has cooled down some, I will turn on the water in the yard, watch the birds play in the birdbath, read a little, watch the hummingbirds drink their nectar, play with our dog a bit and just allow myself to be still and thank the Lord for all the blessings in my life.

Summer afternoon...

The laundry is being caught up...Thank you Lord!! It seems as if it multiplies overnight...anyone else have this problem or is it just me? I have been working on it diligently and feel it has been a rather productive day.

The chicken is slowly cooking on the stovetop for Quesedillas tonight. I used some leftover chicken thighs, cut them up and put them in a skillet, added some yummy salsa and just gently simmer until heated through. Then I take my flour tortillas and put them into another skillet and heat them on all sides then finally add the chicken mixture on top of one tortilla along with some shredded cheese, top it with the remaining tortilla and heat a little and serve with salsa and/or sour cream! I am making a salad, along with Cantaloupe wedges.....easy and doesn't heat up the whole house!!

Taking a break right now to blog a little and to let the soapy water sit on my counter tops, as I'm scrubbing them today. I do one area at a time, take everything off, and start to scrub, using hot water and good ole dish soap. I wash the decorations up as well, then put them back, but tonight I believe I will be doing a little puttering and rearranging of things....freshening the kitchen up a bit.

I had hoped for rain yesterday, but we never received any...another chance perhaps on Friday! Nothing better than a good summer rain, sitting out on the porch and hearing the rain on the roof...now that makes me smile!

Tomorrow I will be leaving to see my mother. She is having an MRI done and will be picking her up and taking her home after the procedure. This is just a follow up, as she has them done yearly. I look forward to spending some time with my mom......listening to her stories and making memories.

Well must get back to the kitchen tasks...have a wonderful Summer evening...blessings always!

It is rather a humid day today, with the distinct possiblility of a stray thundershower here and there! We are in so much need of rain here in Southern California!

I have been away from blogging for a few days to take a break and focus on the tasks here at home.Some changes have happened to the blog as you can see! That is me, "Lil Mindy" in the photo about 3-4 years of age. I have always loved this picture!!!

My weekly focus is on the kitchen as I follow Flylady's routines. I have tweaked things in the routines to fit our family, and it works wonderfully! Sometimes it is rather hard to get motivated, such as it is today!! Seems like a lazy day, but this too shall pass....with much laundry and puttering to do I will keep this short. May your day be filled with the peaceful presence of our Lord. Till tomorrow...blessings always.

Barn Sale finds~

Friday morning I drove out to the "Wine Country" near my home and went to a Barn Sale! I had so much fun shopping and getting ideas from the different vignettes set up!! It was amazing! I was able to met a few fellow bloggers there also. The pillows are down pillows with quilted covers....and on the reverse side is a lovely pale green floral. They will be used greatly as they are made well!

The Flag sign is proudly hanging just above my doorbell on the front porch. the yellow candle, smells like Vanilla Pound Cake...yummy...sits among the Roosters in the garden window in the kitchen! The black toile English China plate holds the candle. My white creamware vase is sitting on my side table with a arrangement of flowers from the yard. The little wreath with holds some dainty succulents has a new home on the back porch on the wicker/glass coffee table. The Sweet P candle rest in a milk glass compete on the mantle. Just a few things to once again feather the nest!

I have enjoyed a day filled with fellowship and prayer with some of the ladies from our church prayer group! We had brunch at a local restaurant with plenty of conversation and encouragement!

On the way home I thought of all the things that are needing t0o be done around the house today....and decided that I would get to the most pressing things and the rest would be taken care of in order of priority tomorrow. I will be cleaning out the desk and re-organizing after purging paperwork and files. Replenish the paper, post-it-notes, paperclips and supplies as needed and this task will be done.

Dear Daughter Amie will be making dinner tonight....Lasagna, Tossed Salad, and Garlic Bread! It is 94 degrees outside, and I'm not relishing the thought of the oven being on.... but oh so thankful that she has offered to make dinner....Thank you Amie girl!!!

I have been cleaning and purging through the living room this week. We purchased a new bookcase and while I didn't think that it was going to look right, or be too big, it actually grounds the room and provides some much needed storage space for most of the books! I arranged things artfully and quite pleased with the results!!! Thanks to the Lord!! I rearranged and deleted some of the accessories as well, and took some pictures to share with you. Our dear cat Koo was posing on top of the table getting his afternoon sun!!

The wreath upon the front door has changed some....I took the Spring flower picks out of it and replaced it with some happy Sunflowers! Looks so Summery!

With the 4th July quickly approaching, what plans do you have? Any Family traditions to celebrate our Nations' Independence?

Hello Summer Days!!

With today being the first day of Summer, I felt that some Summer touches would be most welcomed in our home. From the front porch to the backyard, these touches add so much and doesn't have to cost much if anything. I'm a huge fan of using what I already have to accomplish the desired effect.

Do you have ribbon in some bright and cheery colors? Cut a length of it and tie it around a glass vase and fill it with some fresh flowers. How about covering your tables with layered linens, soft muted colors and mixing some textures. I have one of my Grandmothers' quilt's and I have used it as a tablecloth, which is quite a lovely effect too. I built the dining room table scape from the soft colors of the quilt, using old vintage books, antique glassware with votives and some seashells. These simple touches change the feel of the room. Maybe your more "cleanlines and streamlined" in the summer not wanting any fuss, if that is the case....group some candles together (colors that fit your decor) and buy some play sand, pour the sand onto a tray and put the candles right in the sand and if you like, add a few shells.

In the Kitchen having a bowl of lemons scream Summer to me! Ready to be sliced fore Iced tea and used as a marinade for Summer grilling, lots of ways to use these! I keep the tea jug made with fresh tea all day, and try to keep the oven off as much as possible. If I do any baking, I get up early and take care of it before the heat hits. Our Summer eating becomes a much lighter fare with Supper Salads and crusty bread to heavy use of the gas grill on the patio! Nothing like some grilled veggies drizzled with balsamic vinegar or garlic grilled and spread on fresh Ciabatta bread!

I will be sharing more ideas with you that I have picked up along my journey in life as well as quoting some of my favorite authors and there ideas as well for some Summertime fun!

Fluffing the Nest...

It seems as if summer has come in with a bang here in Southern California! I'm spite of the heat, I'm still enjoying my days here the homestead. I rise early to get the wash started before the heat really sets in, and run the vacuum when needed as well. Dinner gets prepped at this time also, before I go to morning prayer at church.

This week I've been working in my bedroom, especially the closet. Going through shoes, clothing and accessories that are worn, and reorganizing. What I find is that I'm not utilizing some of the clothes in the closet and haven't worn them in a year! Needless to say, I'm gathering some donations for the thrift store!

With the Summer clearly upon us that means some carefree days! Taking a drive down to the beach and enjoying the cool, gentle sea breezes. How about taking in a afternoon movie? Nothing beats going to the local farmer's market and stopping to purchase some fresh fruit and veggies, then coming home with your stash of Summer's Bounty and making a cobbler with your fruit and a lovely salad for dinner!

When I was a little girl, my grandparents' had a beautiful garden. I remember the tomato,cucumber and onion sandwiches for lunch, they were delicious!! Mema would slice the fresh peaches, picked just that morning, put them in the depression glass bowls and pour cold cream over them...such decadence!!!!

I love to go out of a morning and gather fresh Flowers from the yard and arrange them in little vases throughout the house to add the special Summer Touch! I have a habit of getting out my decorating and housekeeping books to peruse them for inspirational ideas for fluffing my nest. In the early evening hours after dinner, I'll get a glass of iced tea with some lemon, and turn on some classical music featuring the violin (which I love) grab my books and a pretty journal. I will look at a picture that appeals to me,and see how I can implement this in my own home....then I write it down. Writing it down insures for me that there will always be more ideas ,inspiration and creativity, for in doing this it is laying a foundation in which to build upon!

Time to grab some magazines, and pretty floral journal or a notepad and start looking...what inspires you? What speaks comfort to you? What colors soothe you? What smells relax you? Take some time this week to feather and fluff your nest as well, create an atmosphere of relaxation and comfort for the Summer season!! Blessings to you..

It has been quite hot here the last few days. I haven't turned on the A/C yet, but have kept the fans running! Monday the Temperature was 100 degrees and today its supposed to be in the 90's!

We have been watering the plants either in the early morning or late evening and giving them a good soaking so they don't shrivel up in this weather. My marigolds that I planted from seed are blooming now, they look so pretty and cheerful!

We are planning on getting together with our dear friends' (family to us) on Sunday for Father's Day! Not sure if they are coming here or if we are going to their home, but in either case, the time will be filled with lots of fun, laughter and making of more memories!

I have been busy with the daily tasks and routines here in the home, de-cluttering, cleaning and rearranging. Something always needs tending to, and kept up and running. I enjoy the early mornings when I wake and take some coffee, toasted English Muffin bread with Lemon Curd, my Bible and head out to the patio and enjoy the beginning of the day. It is amazing to me the peace that always greets me there. What a wonderful way to start each day!!!

I have posted some random pictures of family happenings..Grandson Nicholas making Smoothies with his Aunt Amie, my new rug for the family room, my son Stephen and his girlfriend Jackie, blowing bubbles on the patio last weekend. Hope you enjoy looking at them!

Make time to pamper yourself today in some little way, to recharge your spirit and rest your soul. From a soothing cup of hot tea, arranging a some bouquet of flowers from your yard for your bedside table, some lovely scented lotion to rub on your tired feet to preparing a simple supper of a salad with and some crusty French bread taken on your patio with some candles this evening. Musings of the day~

I realized that it has been a few days since I last posted. It has been a busy week here at the homestead. Projects still being done, for I do not believe that they ever end, something always needs to be done and attended to!

Hubby is gone taking a crane certification test this morning. Dear Son#1 just walked in the door with our grandson Nicholas for a quick visit, and I'm just getting a little breakfast of coffee, toasted squaw bread, and Greek yogurt drizzled with honey and granola...yummy stuff indeed!

Today promises to be yet another busy day, as I feel I need to help Hubby with the application of the faux stone on the new wall he has built. He doesn't know this yet, but will ask if he needs my help, as the process may go much faster if he has another set of hands helping him, "two are better than one" as the Bible says!

Dear Son #2 is working today, and Dear Daughter is in another town staying with a friend, as she had orientation last night for a course she will be taking this summer. She will transfer over to CAL STATE this Fall, we are all very excited for her!

Perhaps this evening Hubby and I can sit out on the patio with a fire in the old stove, and relax with the sounds of a late Spring evening, have a light supper and enjoy each others' company!

Blue skies and warm breezes....

Greetings to you on this first week of June! Its has been a very productive day thus far...some laundry has been done, kitchen stovetop cleaned, counter tops sprayed with Lavender cleaner, mopping and vacuumed attended to as well as dusting, I've settled into the afternoon quite nicely. Taking a break at the moment, and drinking some freshly made lemonade....water, ice, sliced lemons and a splash of Splenda in a colorful glass, it is quite refreshing and hits the spot! Right now the temperature gauge says 88 degrees on the patio. Dear Son #2 is mowing and edging the yards!! Love the smell of fresh cut grass! After awhile, I'll sit out on the patio and enjoy the solice with a good book and my lemonade, until Hubby gets in from work.

I find myself being very retrospective as of late, looking at how far the Lord has brought me since that day that I accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior in my life. Years ago I considered myself a "professional worrier"!! I could worry for myself and for you too if needed. I read the bible regarding worry and anxiety, but still this things would haunt me. I would lay awake at night, unable to sleep due to fear and worry. It wasn't an overnight miracle that happened, but I do remember one day were I was praying and became very bold and almost shouted " I refuse to fear, for fear is the lack of faith, I have faith that My God will work things out on my behalf". Very simple, not super spiritual, but I knew at that moment something happened within me!! I felt such a release, a burdenlifted and shackles broken for i was bound and didn't know it! As soon as the burden lifted, peace came flooding in! The Peace of God surged within me and washed over me, and all I could do was weep and say "Thank You Lord" over and over again. Not to say that trials, tribulations and struggles do not happen anymore...but now I know that this too, shall pass and I hold onto the Word of God and the peace that comes with knowing Him. If you are facing a situation that is robbing you of your peace....cry out to your Savior, for He is your deliverer and will make a way when they seems to be no way! May the peace of God be upon and within you this day and everyday! Blessings to you....

Waking to cloudy skies and cool breezes this morning, the day is full of promise! The sun will eventually come out later this morning as we get some clouds/fog from the coast, which makes for a great time to get out and get the yard work done for the day.

The pictures today were taken last weekend of the patio (our outdoor living room) and the yard. I enjoy rearranging and freshening up a space! Also took a picture this morning of my new rug! I love it! It grounds the family room pulling it together.

Drinking a cup of coffee with Hazelnut creamer and writing down what needs to be done today. I will go the the local fruit and veggie stand and get what is needed for the week as well as the bread store and freeze some bread. I have found some great deals at the bread store....compared to the grocery store, prices are amazing!

Plan on grilled chicken with a rosemary marinade, grilled potato packets with vadalia onions, balsamic grilled squash & zucchini and bread sticks! An easy meal all done on the grill!!

I may go to the book store and peruse the new magazines! One of my favorite things to do!!

Clearing out the clutter~

It is still dark and I'm up already! I woke just a little before 4am, staggered out of bed and started the coffee pot. Felt that I needed to pray for protection for my family..which I did. Alot of times the Lord wakes me in the wee hours to pray and intercede for loved ones. Once done this feeling or impression lifts and I go about the days routines.

We had a very restful Memorial Day holiday! I caught up on some reading,and also looked at the new Country Living issue for June! What a delight that was!

Yesterday I did some detailed cleaning in the family room.....windows, baseboards, crown molding, and valances. I also received my new rug from QVC too! It is beautiful and adds such a elegant touch to the room. I have taken some new pictures of the current projects around our hoe that are done or in progress and will perhaps post them later today!

I rearranged the furniture in the living room yesterday too! Had an extra spurt of energy and thought to take advantage of it! I am very pleased with the results and hubby liked it too!

My thoughts these past few weeks have been that of simplicity and getting back to the basics. I look at my linen closet for example and see lots of linens that we do not even use. Why am I saving them? A garage full of items that I'm saving for this project or that project.

On Memorial Day, my husband was working in the garage. He went to open the garage door and a piece of pipe was in the way and caused the door to come off its track in a few areas and it was "tweaked"! I heard a horrible noise from inside the house, and truly didn't want to open the door leading out to the garage..fearing what I would find! When I did open the door, I saw the garage door...one side up and one side down! Uh oh...this is not good at all! Hubby was frustrated and angry that this happened and well as myself! The reason why I say all of this is if the garage had been clear of unwanted clutter and actually had things properly put away...this would not have happened! It was an expensive lesson for certain....we called the gentleman who installed the door for us...he came right out within the hour and fixed the door...$120.00 later and a lesson learned, the problem wasn't fixed..for the problem is the clutter, all the stuff that we both thought we should hold on to! Thus this goes back to what the Lord has been showing me that past few weeks concerning simplicity and basics! Obviously hubby has power tools for certain home improvement projects, but I'm speaking on those things that really aren't needed: antique table and chairs, old vintage 30's stove just to name a few things. When it is so cl;uttered that you cannot move, it also becomes a safety issue as well. So I'm being very purposeful in working a little each day to free ourselves from all this stuff! Somethings I have bagged up and in my car for donation drop off already! It didn't get this way overnight, and it will take time to clear it away...but I'm being diligent to the task.

I speak of this because it is such an important lesson, spiritually speaking as well. We all have clutter clogging up our lives and minds. We need to clear away the cobwebs to be effective in this life. Thoughts of the past, hurt, pain and rejection at times. We can only move forward when we acknowledge we have need of help and cannot do it on our own strength and wisdom! We are all in need of a Savior~ Jesus Christ! We can clear out the past "stuff and clutter" that we carry around unknowingly... like luggage...only with His help and guidance. He will show you what needs to go...what needs to be purged out and sorted through. I am in process....and that is fine by me...I'm not alone in this, I have my Savior teaching and guiding me in this progression of letting go of the clutter in EVERY area of my life.

A Getaway~

Tomorrow starts the official Memorial Day weekend getaway traffic and rush in these parts! As I was driving to prayer this morning at church, I saw alot of RV's on the road going to a "relaxing place" and "getaway".

Was has been stirring in me in while we do not personally own an RV...Why couldn't I create a "getaway" here at home?

How would I start to do this?

I will start first with the rooms of the home~

The Family room is where we spend most of our time together for the TV is in there. While all of us are here at home, I turn off the TV during the day and put on some peaceful instrumental praise, Celtic or classical music. This is just so relaxing to here this music throughout the house. We have the ability to also have the music that is inside the house to be transferred over to the outside speakers that my husband installed last summer! This is such a wonderful thing, it sets such a peaceful mood outside in the back yard and patio, I use this so often especially as I'm weeding and watering the plants. The throw pillows are clean and fluffed. There are candles in their respectful holders, and fresh flowers are cut and arranged in some small bouquets on the mantle and side table and the clutter is cleared away.

The Kitchen needs to be ready also. The pantry filled with treats and healthy snacks. Alot of prep work done ahead of time: Making the potato salad ahead of time, cutting up the veggies and fruit for snacking and meals throughout the weekend. Marinating meat, chicken or fish also speeds things along. Getting the ice tea pitcher ready and making sure I have plenty of tea bags! I like to mix herbal tea ( blueberry/raspberry) with my regular tea bags and it makes a delicious blend.

With the Laundry done and put away this brings me to the Master Bedroom. Freshly laundered crisp sheets are a must. I have a few sets of 400tc sheets, they are heavenly! The bed made up and pillows arranged, the dresser has a few items on there, and books await the bedside tables, lavender essential oil is dropped into the fragrance rings on the lamps, so when they turn on, the sweet and relaxing scent wafts about the entire upstairs! There is one arrangement of some Roses on my side on the table to bring nature indoors, it is a subtle touch but one that I find so needed.

The Baths have all supplies replenished, and soft towels and bath accoutrement's await the luxurious relaxing soak.

The Patio has been cleared of all clutter, so one can enjoy the various flowers in bloom. The wicker furniture has been washed down and cleaned, as have the cushions. The BBQ has been scrubbed waiting for the meals it will cook for us. A few bouquets arranged on the tables outside, the vintage tablecloth is washed and lays gently upon the black metal bistro table waiting for dinners to be served. With the clutter gone one can focus on the beauty of the outdoors without any hindrance. The lawn freshly mowed and edged, the smell of sweet grass permeated the air, this spells Getaway, Relaxation, Respite. I didn't have to go anywhere to get it for its in my own backyard!

Around the house~

Greetings!!!! I am feeling much better and my energy level is increasing everyday!!! Thank the Lord! I have been continuing to rest and do what is needed here at home.

Yesterday I went to morning prayer at church. Felt good to get back to the routine!!

I have been busy puttering about the house and righting the wrongs. Doing some more laundry today and some desk work (paying bills, marking the calendar etc..) and planning tonight's dinner, Battered Halibut, Roasted potatoes, and Green Beans. Sometimes menu planning tough, so I pull out my cookbooks and look online also...puts the creative spark back into cooking!

I am posting a few photos of a few new items around the house. Hubby won an oil painting bid on eBay and now it hangs so nicely above the mantle and really changes the feel on the room.

Went to a few yard sales on Saturday, I was out about 2 hours and purchased an Ethan Allen reclining wing chair for 5.00!! I brought it home and cleaned it...still have a few things to do to it..but it looks great in the family room too! Funny thing is that Hubby was and I had talked about purchasing a new one to the tune of...398.00, the night before!!! Amazing and such a blessing! Found an depression glass cake plate and a glass refrigerator container,and an old victorian print in a oak frame that I will put over the headboard in the master bedroom!

I will also be posting a few pictures of the window treatment I made for my room, and a few other new additions to my home.

I've been in bed the past few days with another bout of bronchitis! A dear friend from church drove me to the Naval Hospital, as she felt I wasn't well enough to drive, and went to see the doctor. After 30 minutes and a short wait for medication and a rather enjoyable drive home with pleasant chit chat...i climbed into bed and there I have been. I woke this morning and made a cup of hot tea and went outside and sat under the patio umbrella as the kids weeded the flower beds....I was soaking up the sun's rays. It is just amazing to me as you start to come out of this somewhat...you lose energy sooo quick! I will not overdo...as I do not want to end up in the hospital.....so I will continue to rest, heal and relax. I have some Victoria magazines to read as well as finishing up on a book. Time for me to venture back into my sanctuary to rest. I will post again very soon, but until then I wish you all a wonderful weekend and days filled with the joys of Spring!!! Blessings...

I have been tagged by Kim over at "Home is where the heart is" with 7 random or weird things about me...so here goes....

1. I love waking early in the morning and watching the sun rise.

2. I know how to "speed read", as I was in a power reading class in High School.

3. I generally have 4-8 cups of coffee a day...yikes!

4. I love doing laundry...when the washer and dryer are humming along....its a great sense of satisfaction and accomplishment for me.

5. I love Celtic music...being of Scot/Irish descent, must be a prerequisite!

6. I have a great appreciation for my mother and grandmothers' recipes, such simple yet traditional comfort food, trying to copy as many recipes from the collection as possible!

7. I so enjoy cutting some flowers from my yard and making arrangements for my home.

~A New Centerpiece for the Dining Room Table~

This morning Hubby and I went out to breakfast! We had a good time...enjoyed small talk and people watching.

We went on to Target to pickup some staples for the house....and then we came home and he announced that he is going to take a nap! I have started some laundry...tidied up a bit..and now enjoying some very beautiful music as I write this.

It is a lovely sunny day...blue sky and soft breezes! We are supposed to be having much warmer temperatures starting tomorrow...in the 80's!

I found some great items at the Thrift store on Thursday and will post some pictures as soon as I've starched and ironed them!

I had purchased 2 new rugs....one for the living room, and another for the family room...received them yesterday...and the one in the family room had already started to fray at the edge....they are gorgeous rugs...100% wool and looked to be very well made. Called the company and they will send UPS out to pick up the damaged rug and send out a replacement rug...for thankfully they still have them in stock!!! I was really enjoying the new rug...but it must go back and will wait for another one. The kids are camping this weekend. They left today with tent, cooler full of food, sleeping bags and firewood! They will have a good time!!

Our grandson will be spending the night with us tonight, and then off to church in the morning...grandpa and I are sure to have fun with him around.....he loves going outside to water the plants, play in the dirt...etc...he just loves the outdoors!

Well I must get back to taming the paper clutter here at the desk and finish up with the laundry. Enjoy your weekend, may it be peaceful and full of sunshine!

I have been collecting old "Victoria " magazines ever since they stopped publication a few years back. I enjoy reading and perusing over the articles....and the pictures are just gorgeous.They are such a treasure!

Now for the good news...they are bringing our beloved "Victoria" magazine back...starting October 2007!!! You can read the article here. Needless to say...I am thrilled!!!

Saturday musings~

I've been a little under the weather this past week. No energy and feeling almost"battle weary". I have made sure throughout this past week, to rest as much as possible. Today I have just relaxed after my morning routine was done. Been reading a great book..."The Best of Stillmeadow" by Gladys Tabor. Its been a delight to read and I'm enjoying it so much! Her stories are woven around family, their pets, and farm life, a relaxing read just before bedtime.

It was so hot the past few days....temperatures in the 90's!! Seems as if a little Summer has attempted to sneak in all too soon! The weather should be back to "normal" they say next week.

I took a few pictures of my work in the yard...swept, pitched some clutter, pruned,and rearranged. I am pleased with the results so far, but have so much to do still. I do a little each day as I'm able to. I enjoy working in the yard early of a morning, or late in the afternoon, when its cooler. The birds are active and sing more during that time....its a peaceful time of day too...especially early..just before sunrise....the most glorious time of day!

Tomorrow....talk a walk around your neighborhood, pick some flowers and arrange them in your favorite vase, make a hearty Sunday supper and enjoy a peaceful Sunday. Blessings to you and yours....

We had a very busy weekend...with all the kids here on Saturday including our dear Grandson! Dear Hubby and I went out to breakfast together and then to Lowes where we purchased 3 new light fixtures. One went in the entryway, the other above the stairs, and finally the bigger of the three...over the dining room table! They look just beautiful and will take some photos to show you! The day was spent relaxing and enjoying the family time together!!!

Monday brings the "weekly home blessing" and tackling the laundry once again! Since I cleaned and purged the Guest room....I am washing all the lines that were stored in there and cleaning out the linen closet to make room for what was in the Guest room! Whew.... what a job that is turning out to be....but doing a little at a time!

Dinner will be in the crockpot....Country Style Pork Ribs! Just add some stuffing perhaps or mashed potatoes...a tossed salad...and dinner's done. Makes it so easy to use the crockpot...on these busy days when so much needs to be done!

A heartfelt thank you for all the prayers for my husbands' recent problem with his back. Last week seemed like a blur to me...lack of sleep, doctors appointments etc... But I'm thrilled to say that he is doing better! The pain is subsiding...with the help of much prayer and physical therapy. I saw the grace of God thru this ordeal. Friends and family stood with us in prayer and for this I'm forever grateful!!!!

He is back at work with a light duty for another week and maybe longer if needed. During this time, I've reflected the need to yet again simplify my life...pare down....lighten the load. So this week I'm delving into the dreaded garage to throw out, go through, give away and organize. The message that the Lord put on my heart 5 years ago has once again comeback to me and that is: Stewardship. Being a good steward of what He has given us....time, energy, talents and treasures. We have had things sitting in the garage for so long...with great plans to so something with all the stuff....and even with those plans, nothing has happened. Time to release those things...let go and bless someone else who needs it. So I contemplating a yard sale...and then putting the resources I make into painting the master bedroom and possibly new linens, or just donate all of it and be done!!!! What are you thoughts on this...new ideas are also most welcomed!!

Tonight our eldest son has to work all night, so our daughter-in-law and grandson will be spending the night! What fun times we will all have!!!

I have also taken quite a lot of pictures of the home and garden. I have picked my first bouquet of roses from the yard. So coming this week will be some of these pictures of seasonal vignettes and pretties about the house.

But once again....thank you all so much for you love, support and many prayers at this time!! I thank God for each and every one of you! God's abundance blessings to you and yours.....

It has been a whirlwind of activity the past 24 hours. Dear Hubby seems to have injured his back again somehow. We attempted to go to the ER last night, but once we were there...he took one look at the wait in the waiting room and wanted no part in that. He was in excruciating pain last night and this morning....he didn't sleep...nor did I. He had made an appointment at the Naval Hospital yesterday, and that was at 830 am this morning.I drove him to the appointment, we had just gotten through the checkpoint at the gate entrance, and he said"Pullover I can't take the pain anymore"...with that, the ambulance was called. They drove him the ER, and taken up to the clinic were his appointment was! After 3 hours there with Xrays, a shot in his back to help with pain, waiting for the prescriptions to be filled...we drove home. He slept most of the way and after the shot wore off, he became miserable yet again....at least he is able to walk today, as yesterday he wasn't! I called a friend from church that is part of the prayer ministry also, and asked her to pray and alert the others. I was also able to call the church office and speak to the assistant Pastor and request prayer for him. If you would be so kind and say a prayer for my husband. I am standing strong on God's word.... it a helpless feeling when you see your husband crying due to extreme pain. I know that as I prayed for him last night, the presence of the Lord was so strong in our room....such peace and comfort. I will post and let you all know how he is doing, as I'm able to. Please keep us in your prayers....thank you in advance my friends'.....you are ALL a great treasure! God's blessings of peace and health to you and your household....

We have had a lovely Easter! Went to church service this morning, and then home to start cooking. We watched various movies this afternoon and just relaxed. Dinner was delicious....Ham with all the trimmings. Our Son ,Daughter-in-law and Grandson Nicholas came over also and he played with his toys and made us all laugh! It has been cool and cloudy today...and some drizzle too! Makes for a cosy time spent with loved ones. I hope each one of you had a blessed Easter with family and friends. Thank you for all the lovely well wishes for Hubby's birthday. We had a great weekend spent with loved ones!

I am sitting here with another cup of coffee taking a break from today's routine to post another entry on the blog. Dinner is in the crock pot...Country style Pork Ribs with Mashed potatoes (brown rice for me) and stir Fry Veggies with some French Bread. The dryer in humming along nicely and the house is tidied up for the afternoon.

We have had some beautiful weather..perfect for spring cleaning. I have managed to clear out some clutter in the back yard and sow seeds and pot some plants too! The yard is so green with the white bush rose blooming already, while seeds are sprouting up through the earth reaching for their sunshine.

Dear Hubby surprised me yet again with another "Biscuit Barrel"! This one is just as pretty as the last one...creamy glass with painted violas! A favorite little ritual for me of an afternoon is to put the teakettle on...get out a pretty teacup and saucer....make a hot cup of tea and gather some delicacies from the "biscuit barrel" and sit out on the porch with a good read and relax...taking in the sights and sounds of the Springtime.

Last night while sitting downstairs by myself I was impressed upon by the Lord to turn off the TV and put on my favorite instrumental worship music..which I did. I sat on the sofa and hummed along softly, read the Word out loud, and worshipped the Lord. In doing this His presence filled the room.....I got up off the sofa and knelt on the floor and bowed down before Him in reverence. I could do nothing but weep....tears of repentance, tears of thankfulness and tears of joy. Such a sweet and tender time with the Lord Jesus! He is always knocking at the door of our hearts to come and fellowship with Him....spend time with Him..,for He is our Savior, Lord and also, our Friend. He knocks, and we must open the door to Him...for the Word of God says "to him who knocks, the door will be opened"....He always opens the door for us.....but we must do the same for Him....keep the door of our heart open and yielded to Him and His purpose. May God bless you richly today....as we open the door to the Lord and welcome Him in ALL things and in EVERY area of our lives.

Today is my husband's Birthday!!! We will celebrate throughout the remaining part of this week. He is taking a day off from work tomorrow and we will head out towards the Local base for his eyes to be checked....then off to lunch and perhaps take in the beach and an antique shop or two!

The kids and I got him some balloons...as he already purchased himself his gift...a tile cutter! So I've made some spaghetti sauce in the crockpot...have a great loaf of crusty Ciabatta bread....assemble a salad near dinner time...and we will be set! Dessert with be apple pie and vanilla ice cream!

We will have a cake for him on Saturday, then after church on Sunday we will go to our dear friends' house to spend the day with them!

I celebrate with you today and always! Here's to you on your special day...Happy Birthday Honey!! I pray for continued health, happiness and blessing upon you and that God continues to give you the desires of your heart!

Quiet Contemplation~

A quick post to say hello to you! It has been quite an amazing day. Breakthroughs on a few fronts...Praise the Lord!!! We had some very strange weather today...high winds, hail, rain, thunder and lightning!

I'm sitting here with dishes needing to be done, laundry needing to be folded...yet here I sit with a candle lit, and a heart filled with gratitude to such a loving Father....He hears when we call to Him, He answers as we wait on Him...I rejoice for God is my Father!

I'm pondering what is next on my journey as I walk with the Lord. Each day He brings something new my way.... life is never boring this is for certain!

With a list made with what needs to be addressed in the home tomorrow...I will once again ask the Lord to order my steps and fill my day as He wants... I leave you with this wonderful quote I found...it so intrigues me I would love the book!

What a wonderful weekend I had! Our son and daughter in law and grandson came over yesterday and spent the day with us. Our Son helped Dad with the newest project...and new fence and gate for the side yard. Its starting to take shape and before long it will be finished! I will make a wreath to hang on the gate to welcome those coming through that area. After the men worked, I fixed BBQ chicken, baked potatoes, zucchini casserole, salad, and for dessert was ice cream. Our grandson played out in the yard, and helped me with watering...that was fun indeed as the little guy wound up wet!

Today went to church and it was a great service as always. Spent the rest of the day in the Master Bedroom.....going through my jewelry box, shoes, books and magazines. Dusted and did some detailed cleaning too. Our Dear daughter made Lasagna for dinner tonight, with garlic bread and salad! It was delicious!

This evening I will enjoy a good soak in the tub...and settle in with a good book. Tomorrow will come before I know it....so for now I rest. Blessings to you...

We have had a wonderful sprinkling of rain in our area the past few days, no downpours at all, but we will take whatever bit comes our way!. It is going to do wonders for the seeds that have been planted. The Morning Glories are already poking thru the earth, and the Sweet William as well!

I have been working on my bedroom this week. Today I will taking down the blinds and soaking them in the bathtub, and washing the curtains, and finally cleaning the windows! Our closet rod broke over the weekend, and this is a perfect chance to purge yet again. I have purchased a few new things for the Spring and Summer season, and now I feel the need to purge and pass on the blessing to someone else.

I do need to run to Target for a few things as well, also workout this afternoon before coming home to fix dinner. Dinner tonight will be Mini-meatloaves, Garlic-cheese mashed Potatoes and a zucchini casserole. After a busy day like today, this is a snap to prepare!

The Lord has been showing me many things as of late. One is to press into Him more and more and not to be moved by what may be going on around me. To come and sit with Him, to have communion with Him, spend time with Him...and not be pressured for time, not to think about what needs to be done next. But to come and sit, be still and quiet, and then wait on Him, for He comes. I find that again, once I am obedient to His request, He increases the hours in my day! I am guilty of rushing around and trying to do this and that in my own strength, only to feel and know that it is an exercise in futility. The Lord will allow us to continue on and on at times, till we stand there and say "Ok Lord, I let go of this, and will not carry the burden, I release it to you and take your yoke, for it is light and easy to be borne." I cannot tell you how many times I've found myself in this place, and very recently at this here once again. I repented and released the tasks that I'm responsible for to Him and sat there and was filled with peace and a new hope. The lesson learned is a simple one: That in all things I seek and ask for His wisdom, provision and strength. That I lean not on my understanding and my limited knowledge, but acknowledge the Lord in ALL things (running my household in every facet), and He will direct my paths everyday. My Lord has once again showered down His wisdom, abundance, and strength to me, and I'm so very thankful that I am His and that He is mine.

May the Lord fill you day with His grace, love and provision!! Blessings to you and your house...

What a surprise for me! Hubby received a package in the mail on Wednesday afternoon. He has been visiting the eBay site often so I thought nothing of it. While I was finishing up on the dinner preparation he came into the kitchen, bearing a big package wrapped in bubble wrap. Once opened, in my hands this beautiful "Biscuit Barrel"!! I mentioned to him months ago how I loved them...so I am the grateful recipient of this treasure! The biscuit tin is another gift from him last year. I use it to put my assortment of tea in, and it is perfect use for it! The "Irish Coffee" cup was a find at a yard sale last Spring. I ususally keep the tin in the cabinet, but now with the new biscuit barrel, it will be kept on the countertop. It makes a lovely vignette and when I'm wanting a cup of tea....it will all be there together! Thank you dear hubby for your thoughtfulness, thank you for blessing me!!!

First signs of Spring~

Wow has it been hot here!!! Yesterday it was 93 degrees...in March? Today it rather pleasant in the house. I have all the doors open and the breeze is wafting through the house and it is quite nice.

Hubby has had a problem with his back as I've mentioned in prior posts. After the past few weeks of only 3-4 hours of sleep for myself...I felt it was time for me to go into the spare bedroom, so we can both sleep better till this passes. He is getting better day by day...thank you for your prayers! I grabbed the "Aerobed" and inflated it...put some great 400 thread count sheets on it...a quilt, and my pillows...ceiling fan on...bedside lamp dimly lit with my nightly reading material...it was a great nights' sleep!! My own little oasis...for a short time...so peaceful in there too!

Today I went to prayer and it was powerful! God is moving in such a mighty way and it is so exciting to see and be a part of what He is doing in these days!!

I've got the laundry humming away in the dryer, and will put that away once it is finished. Made some sugar free Jello with peaches...yum, and will make a Carrot cake with cream cheese frosting this afternoon. Dinner is Salmon Patties with Dill sauce

I've kept the backyard watered the last few days as I finally planted the Morning Glory and Sweet Pea seeds on Sunday! I already have Marigolds seedlings sprouting up, and much to my surprise,this morning as I'm leaving to go to the church...I saw a bud on the rose bush in the front planter!!! Spring is here!

Had some "Desk Time" this morning and afternoon in between doing other chores around the house. Able to pay a few bills and spruce up my household notebook. I'm creating a Master Grocery list, and some menus too...so these will be included in the binder as well. It is a relatively easy day here today which I'm so grateful for. Some beautiful instrumental praise and worship music playing inthe background...and even as I'm doing the tasks for this day..my heart sings in praise to My Lord. Simplicites~

Its another beautiful day! The patio door is open to the fresh air and the birds singing. I can hear the sound of water in the little stream at the back of our property. So much to do today...this week I've seemed to hit the ground running, but today I'm being very purposeful about letting the day unfold as it will. I have do vacuum, dust, and finish up on laundry. I have Morning Glory seeds soaking and ready to plant alongside some Sweet Peas on the back fence, and wanting to move everything off the patio and sweep, wash it off with water, and rearrange it too! Not sure if this will all happen today...but I can do a few things tomorrow too.

I snapped a few pictures this morning of some Springtime corners of my home. My mantle vignette using pieces of my collection of pitchers and creamers, some favorite books~old & new~ and a pair of cute rabbits found at a yard sale last year. Bought a bouquet of Marguerite Daisies and split them up and made 3 separate arrangements and placed them around the house as a gentle surprise and reminder that Spring is here indeed! Another picture is a pot of Tulips, Allysum, and Violas on my porch to welcome those coming to visit or returning home. Yet another picture is of our Nectarine tree in our yard with its blossoms, promising some ripe, juicy fruit this summer!

It is the simplicities of the day... the nurturing of our soul with the Word of God and prayer, the tidying and putting order into our rooms in our home, the routines of daily living, the meal making and planning...the time with our family after the work of the day...some of the very simple pleasures of life. Very grounding and fortifying, for this world is hectic and so chaotic...we must be purposeful in focusing on the simplicity in our lives....I find myself here...needing to slow down, yielding yet again to a balanced pace for this season...to be purposeful not to run, do and go so much that I lose perspective on what is truly important in life....so today I yield again to the gentle tug of the Lover of my Soul to come away with Him and spend time to get direction for this season...the season of newness, new birth and new things, and feel His love and His presence wash over me so I will bring forth that which He destines for me. Wishing you a blessed day in the Lord....

Welcome the month of March...

Today is just a gorgeous day! The sun is shining brightly and the sky is a lovely shade of blue. There is a nip in the air, and the winds are back. I can here my windchimes in the yard, as the wind is whipping them around.

I am to get my hair cut this afternoon, then off to Target to get supplies for the house. I always enjoy leisurely walking through that store, and will stop to purchase a bouquet of flowers too. My roses are already getting new growth, from the cutting back of the Autumn season! They look so healthy and I'm looking forward to some beautiful blossoms in a few months!

I've been a busy girl this week with continued cleaning, rearranging, and de-cluttering. My kids caught it too, as they purged there own closets and drawers, and cleaned their rooms...they even went out and purchased some new bedding!!

Hubby will be working all day today, and having to go back at 11pm tonight to work through till tomorrow. He won't be coming home but rather staying with a friend instead.

We have very high ceilings in our home downstairs, and with that comes ledges over the doorways, that need cleaning and sprucing up badly! In order to do this I have to get the ladder and go up at least 15 feet...yikes...so I'm thinking this may be a job for the youngest to do, or at least help me with it!

I've changed my blog a little to welcome in the month of March! Spring is just around the corner, and while I'm looking forward to it, I'm always very content with the here and now. This afternoon I want to pull some weeds in the flower beds, and sweep the patio, and rake the yard too. Just to tidy up the patio and rearrange a little to freshen that area up, because you can see it from our family room as we have a sliding glass door that leads right out to the patio. I would love to look for some new cushions for our wicker patio set...something that looks vintage and not the bold colors I'm so used to seeing...more muted shades of florals.

Well time to close for now and continue to move through the course of the day. I pray that you have a Happy Friday, and a peaceful weekend with loved ones! Blessings always....

Little Boys....

Our grandson Nicholas had his haircut last Saturday! Needless to say in this picture he wasn't a happy camper!! He did not like the clippers at all. Mommy cut his hair at home once before, but this was his first trip to the Big Boy's chair at the shop. Grandma was busy trying to take pictures and calm him some along with Mommy and Daddy. He was fine until the clippers came and that was it! Then afterwards it didn't take long for the smile to return on his lil face!!! We stopped at the local Christian bookstore and Grandma bought him a new t-shirt that had printed across the front "Take a Leap of Faith" along with a cute frog, and a little "Joyful Noise" musical instrument set.....he loved it as you can see!

Greetings to you!! Hope you had a wonderful weekend. Mine was a gentle balance of rest and productivity. I have continued to purge closets and drawers for items not needed, and pare down.
Its a cloudy and windy Monday here. We have a chance of some more rain moving in tonight...and lots of wind coming as well.
I am beginning to look at my decorating books for inspiration for the coming seasonal change. One book in particular " Relaxing on the Porch" by Megan Fulweiler is an absolute delight to read. She talks about types of porches, design themes and ideas, privacy, dining Alfresco, and the porch garden. The photos in this book are gorgeous and so inspiring, makes me want to just jump in and start rearranging things now!! I bought it at Barnes and Noble on clearance for 7.88 I believe..love those clearance books!
One other book that I just received from Amazon is "Putting the Heart in your Home....Decorating that nurtures your soul" by Jean LemMon. She is the former editor- in -chief for "Better Homes and Garden". I perused this book online for quite sometime before I purchased it...and I'm so glad I did!! With chapters entitled " Heart to Heart, Whimsy, Romance, Simplicity and Comfort...its was bound to be a keeper.... and it is!! I've been reading a little each night, and keep a decorating journal for notes and ideas....when inspiration hits...I write it down or sometimes sketch ideas out....I have found this to be very effective for me. One persons' idea captures my attention, causes me to think and ponder and recreate it in my mind using my own interpretation of the theme!
For today though...I'm blessing my home again, doing laundry and enjoying having the kids home today. For dinner tonight it will be Cheesy Potato Casserole with Ham, Steamed Veggies, Rolls...and for dessert, Strawberry Sugar Free Jello with Peaches!
I did go and workout today..yea Me!! I have decided that enough is enough!! Be more purposeful about my workout time...be diligent and steadfast! I have much more energy when I am working out 3x a week.

Its a rainy Friday morning...

Woke this morning to the delightful sound of rain! I've been up since 4:15 this morning and on my third cup of coffee! I brewed some coffee this morning and lit a candle and grabbed a throw and decided to call hubby who was on his way to work....getting a little better each day, at least he is sleeping more now...Praise the Lord!

Yesterday I met with my sister and her friend at her office (she is a chiropractor) and had bible study and prayer! Such a wonderful time for all of us to come together and seek the Lord and pray for our families and those we know who have specific needs....a very fruitful time!

I posting some photos of the latest attempt to create a cozy niche in my laundry area. Why should this area be neglected even though it is in the garage? So I decided to do a little sprucing up out there too! Used what I had already...an old drawer that I added some vintage glass pulls as "feet", draped an antique doily over the side and added my extra laundry supplies. Found the plate hanging on the wall at Target, last year on clearance for 4.00, and the ladder and old washboards for found at various yard sales and antique shops over the years. They were already hanging there, and adding these other items just pulled it together a little more. Eventually I will paint, I've been saying this for a few years now...it will happen, at some point! I used an vintage 40's tablecloth found at a yard sale for a steal at $.50...on top of the dryer and my grandmother's runner across the shelf. The chair i grabbed up at a yard sale also for 3.00! It just goes to show that we do not have to spend lots of money to freshen a new space! I use what I have alot of the time and move pieces around, and put others away. Decorating for the seasons is what I do...keeps the home looking fresh and updated!

The sun is rising on the horizon as I look out my back window towards the east...right now the rain has stopped. The promise of a fruitful day lies ahead for me...I embrace the day and blessings that it will bring! Have a fruitful day filled with the abundance of the Lord!

After the rain we've had yesterday, the sunshine is a most welcomes sight! We are in store for more wet weather the end of the week....so thankful for that!

I went to prayer today, and then home to start the routines for the day. Hubby is home again today, he went to the doctor's and received some muscle relaxers as well as a high dosage of Tylenol, so we a praying and believing that he will have a beloved sweet slumber as the Lord promises in His word.

I brought down the crockpot again and put in some chicken sausages (sweet bell pepper and onion) that I purchased at Trader Joe's, along with red potatoes, sliced onion and a can of sauerkraut. Its an easy menu with some dinner rolls and a salad and dinners done!

I'm working in the Master Bedroom this week. Taking down the blinds..washing them as well as the curtains. I've purged some drawers as well as the closet. The drawers in the bath room will also need a once over as well! Getting rid of those things that we think we must have...paring down is a good thing! Lighten the load a little in this house while blessing another with your treasures. Sometimes i just give away items to family and friends, as well as dropping off at the local thrift store.

Have a few magazines that I've not been able to read yet..for the month March "Country Living" and "Traditional Home". My bedside table has some great books looking to be read "Christy" which I picked up at the thrift store for 1.00, and "Darcy and Elizabeth" a sequel of sorts to Pride and Prejudice, and these few books.. "Intercessory Prayer", and "You are not what you weigh"...by Lisa Bevere.

I've always enjoyed reading ever since I was a child. Its very relaxing to me. A good book and a hot cup of tea and I'm set!

Time to continue with the plans of my day...enjoy your evening with your loved ones...pick up a good book, brew a soothing cup of tea and relax in your peaceful corner.

Weekend musings~

What a wonderful afternoon I had yesterday! My dearest friend ( and I call her sister too) met for lunch yesterday and then did a little shopping. The weather was absolutely gorgeous...in the 80's...as it is today! It was great to get out of the house and into different surroundings, then come home, and settle in for the evening. A day away often gives me a fresh perspective and breathes new life into my daily activities.

Today hubby is home due to his back. He has an appointment with the chiropractor and told him that he must rest today and tomorrow! I have all the window and doors open to allow the fresh air to permeate the house. Its quite refreshing to say the least! I have stripped the bed and I'm letting the feather bed get a good airing and later this afternoon will put fresh linens on the bed along with some lavender linen spray. Just doing that simple little touch makes all the difference for me.

For dinner tonight we are having Chicken Tostadas!! I roasted a whole chicken yesterday and pulled the meat off the bone. Will add some salsa and heat through. Along with some black beans, chopped romaine lettuce, sharp cheddar cheese, olives, chopped tomatoes, onions, and avocado...that is dinner for us!

Happy Valentines Day to you! After going to prayer this morning and then to breakfast with a friend...I'm just now ready for the day!! There isn't alot to be done today...just some laundry and a gentle swishing and swiping of the baths. My hubby surprised me last night with a dozen long stemmed red roses for Valentines day....they are gorgeous...and I love his thoughtfulness, what a sweetheart he is for thinking of me!

I have planned a scrumptious dinner tonight:

Grilled Rib Eye steaks with sauteed mushrooms and onions

Grilled Shrimp with herbed butter sauce

Baked Potatoes

Petite French green beans

Rolls

and for dessert...vanilla ice cream with fresh strawberries and hot fudge sauce!

We had some rain the past few days...not alot but I welcomed it just the same. The clouds are still about, but the wind is blowing so much that I can hear my wind chimes in the yard! Its a beautiful day here today and I'm enjoying it immensely.

Seasons of Growth~

I'm taking a rest from the day's activities to gather my thoughts. This morning was a busy one....woke very early and had my morning devotions, started the dishwasher and some laundry, then drove to prayer at church...which just keeps getting better and better...God is moving is a huge way!!
I came home and gathered up the coins which dear hubby put into wrappers to deposit in the bank. It isn't' a romantic gift but it sure is practical but,for Valentines' Day we purchased a coin sorter at Sam's Club...and the wrappers too, and that was his project he worked on till he went to bed last night! After all was said and done, there was $351.00 to deposit in the savings account!! It was put in a basket and I carried from the car into the bank...it was soooo HEAVY!!!! After the banking business was taken care of..I stopped in the local florist and purchased a small bouquet of flowers. She asked me what I wanted and I told her ,"Surprise me", and much to my delight she did! A riot of pink flowers...Roses, Gerber Daisys, Tulips, Alstromerias, and sweet smelling Hyacinths!! I put them into a white ceramic pitcher and placed them on my antique trunk that I use for a coffee table. The room looks so cheerful with flowers in it!
My son helped me make some spaghetti sauce for dinner tonight along with that we will have a tossed green salad, and garlic bread!
I've managed to steadily bless my home today..doing a little at a time, and enjoying the various things I'm doing...dusting, vacuuming, even folding the laundry. Love how the house looks once it has had its weekly blessing....and when its done I can focus on the detailed cleaning and purging of closets...and planning of some decorating projects that I would love to tackle soon.
I was asked about the scripture on my sidebar from the book of Isaiah. I specifically chose this one for the beginning of the New Year...for it is a season of new beginnings, a fresh slate so to speak. This passage speaks volumes to me...we can perceive the change coming and allow it to manifest in our lives by embracing what the Lord wants to do in our lives....or remain right where we are in the same place, very little or no growth spiritually. All relationships grow, they must or they will become stagnate....we change, we grow, and so must our relationship with the Lord. At times, the pruning comes, but when it does, its can get rather scary, the dead stuff getting lopped off, feeling the pain of having to let go... but it is for our own good.The Lord always knows what is best for us..but once that unhealthy dead stuff is cut away ...the new shoot of growth can spring forth and bear much fruit. I have been in this season many times, but now I find myself in a season of growth, and season of increased vision. I yield to this season of growth because all I want to do is be a vessel of Honor for My Master's service.

Thoughts and Ideas~

Another Friday is upon us and I'm ready for the weekend! Dear hubby is working very long hours..the kids have alot of things going on, and all in all it has been a very busy week. Forgive me for not posting as often as I have been.

Yesterday I drove to the dealership 30 miles away to have my car serviced, then called my sister as it was her day off, and we met for lunch. Had a lovely time with her, and afterwards we engaged in some "retail therapy"! At Bed, Bath, & Beyond, I found a beautiful footed compote 14.99 with 30% off, and 2 beautiful floral pillows at 9.99 ea at 30% off, for the family room sofa!! I will be able to put the potpourri I make from the roses and other flowers from my yard this spring/summer season, into this compote!

We haven't received much rain this season...hopefully the next month or so we can play catch up. We are expecting rain this weekend, and the clouds are already rolling in.

I was asked by one of my blogging friends' Maggie Ann, what a "Home Blessing" is. I wanted to take this opportunity to answer this question. I use the "Flylady" system to clean and maintain my home and every Monday is the "Home Blessing" day. Its the day that the floors get mopped , sheets get changed, vacuum and dusting, all trash cans are emptied...etc..I have a 2 story home, So I do the downstairs on Monday, upstairs on Tuesday...so instead of saying I'm doing "housework", its a "Home Blessing, sounding much gentler and doable! I have found that this is what works for me and in doing this my life has indeed changed as well as my perspective about "Keeping House". I love my routines and find them so grounding. When the storms of life come, I try to maintain those routines and move forward, finding these little things that are done everyday, so comforting and nurturing to me. Maybe I'm odd in this but I really love the aspect of nesting and keeping house! Something very satisfying about creating and nesting in the home....a sense of accomplishment...not perfection....some flowers picked up from the grocers' arranged gently in an old vintage chipped pitcher, old quilts folded to overflowing in an basket, pillows fluffed up and waiting to be used, the scent of tea tree oil and lavender cleaners wafting through the house from the use of it on the floors and baths, a few books stacked and ready to read next to the armchair, a shiny sink in the kitchen with a crisp vintage teatowel draped over the edge. Its those personal touches to our homes that say...come in and sit down, relax and recharge. Using those items in our homes that perhaps we have put away for a special occasion. Pull them out of the cabinets and closets and make everyday a celebration for you and your loved ones. Use them in a different way.....old cruets can be used as a soap dispenser or even mouthwash in the bath. Vintage stemware used to hold toothbrushes, hair clips or even pretty little soaps in the bath. Baskets can be used for holding potatoes and onions in the pantry, to organizing some cookbooks too. I have started a collection of creamers and plan of using them this spring upon the mantle in the family room, some filled with flowers and some not. I use antique teacups to hold tealight candles which create such a pretty glow. With the collection of antique and vintage books I have acquired over the years, I use these as well in my creating and nesting her at home. I stack them up and place a photo of loved ones, or a vase of flowers, a plant, or perhaps a clock. There is not right or wrong....use those things that are precious to you..so you can enjoy them everyday in a new way!

Mondays Musings~

Its actually hot here today...85 degrees on my back patio! Go figure! Other areas in the US are having below freezing with wind chill too! Strange indeed...

Its been quite a fruitful day. Been steadily blessing my house throughout the day...went to prayer this morning which always sets my day in order. Its like a breath of fresh air when I leave...burdens left behind and praying Our Fathers' will upon the earth!!

Laundry is still being done, the dryer quietly spinning away..while the washer is chugging along!

Dinner tonight will be Tri-Tip steaks

Salad, Rolls and Fresh cut up Veggies

I have some garlic roasting in the oven..Cut the tops off of it...drizzled some good olive oil over the top and a sprinkling of kosher salt and put it in the oven...smells wonderfully aromatic in here!

I was able to shampoo the family room carpet on Saturday...opened up all the doors and windows as the weather is once again very warm. It was one of those things that I had been procrastinating on..but so glad that its done now...the effort is so worth it!

We had a lovely weekend. I watched our grandson Friday night...and he stayed overnight and we had so much fun! Grandpa worked overnight and came home Saturday afternoon..and Nicholas was ready to play with him. The little ones have soooo much energy...its just amazing to me!

I ordered my mothers' valentines gift from Harry & David! I sent her a gift for her birthday last year and she enjoyed it so much...so I had a coupon for 10% off my order and decided that this would be a great gift for her....the pears are the best!!!! It will be delivered on February 14th and no extra cost to get it there in time either!!!

Its been a great Monday...the start of a new week...and looking forward to what is coming in the days ahead...with expectancy. Its a day to get things back into order from the weekends activities. Starting with a tidied home, laundered linens and clothes put away, bills paid, meals planned, something sweet baked for later, and in the evening..time with family going over the days events...encouraging one another...and then when its all quiet...I sit and again thank my Lord for the many blessings in my life as this day comes to a gentle close.

Refreshing Times.....

After last weeks' campmeeting at church, I've settled back quite nicely into my routines here home. Catching up on laundry, and doing my weekly home blessing in 2 days instead of one!
Campmeeting was amazing!! I came away refreshed and rejuvenated, and just what was needed! Its been such a busy week. Dear Hubby is working overnight for the next day or so, so he came in early this morning about 6am...I was already up and having coffee ready to start my day and in he walks! It was such a surprise as I thought that I wouldn't see him to at least tomorrow! He is now upstairs sleeping, and I've got a pot of homemade bean and bacon(ham) soup going...its just simmering away adding such a delicious aroma throughout the house.

I managed to move the furniture around in the family room last night, with the help of my kids...I really am enjoying the way the room looks now..fresh and new!! Rearranged a few accessories too and brought out others that have been put away, lit some candles and taking a deep breath for the moment!

Since the beginning of the New Year...the Lord has been dealing with me concerning "old mindsets". I have been very prayerful in weeks past and this is what I'm hearing from many people...the same thing. I do not believe that it is because we have entered into a new year....but there are old thought patterns that are keeping many of us held back from the purpose God has for us...me included! God has a plan for each one of us...all of us have talents and gifts that are vital to the Body of Christ. Everyone matters...every soul needs Jesus, to be set free and walking in purpose, forgiveness towards others, and leading others to Jesus if just by example of His love and mercy! We are equipped with His power and His might if we would only believe and trust Him. This is a basic lesson, but one so hard at times to walk out and implement....but we must choose...for a lost world is waiting for the truth to be spoken and the beacon of light to pierce the darkness that surrounds...for we are indeed His Body......His Hands to reach out, His arms to gather those that are broken, His Legs to walk with those who are discouraged, and His Voice to declare that Jesus is Lord over all.
